Not 100% sure what you mean so Im going to assume you mean is there a difference between sealed and ported subwoofer enclosures. If this was your question, then yes, there is a big difference. Enclosures with a port are tuned to a specific frequency (depending on the subwoofer). What this does is it emphasizes certain frequencies of sound such as really deep bass, but will have a very large drop off in sound at other frequencies (you gain sound at the tuned frequency but you lose sound at other freqs). This can tend to produce what most people describe as a looser, muddier bass, but you will get more output at the desired frequency (it will play louder). Sealed enclosures are generally going to have less output than ported, but you are going to get a much more accurate, tighter bass response at all frequencies. If you put the same subwoofer in a ported enclosure, it will require less power to make it play loud because there is less force behind the subwoofer to resist its movement. In a sealed enclosure, there is nowhere for the air to escape (you hope) and therefore there is more resistence, require more power to get it to play as loud. So the choice is basically up to you. If you dont know a good deal about sound, or just want a tighter more accurate bass....go with a sealed enclosure. If you know what sub you are using and what frequency you want your box to be tuned to, or if you just want to be obnoxiously loud and dont care what kind of sound quality you are bumping....go with a ported. And I would strongly advise staying away from bandpass boxes unless you really, really know what you are doing.

Re: Subwoofers

Ohhhh, when I first read the post, I thought you were talking about free air subs. But that was a pretty good explaination.

Re: Subwoofers

ported gives your more of a boomy bass sound where sealed will you give you more sound quality. use winISD to design your own boxes and get your sub specs. thats the best way to do it. custom built by you to fit your needs

Re: Subwoofers

Its true but dont forget you get what you pay for in subs. If you buy a cheap sub compared to a better made sub, you will notice a difference in quality. The bass will be tighter and cleaner soundingout of the better made sub.
