Rep Power: 0 Question about my Setup
Ok, so i had a setup with all the wiring and everything done by a professional and i had a JL 1000/1 amp hooked up to a dual voice coil JL 12w7, but i blew my sub. I'm now looking at a 12w7 on ebay with a 1 year warranty (which other did not have) but it is a single voice coil, so could i buy that one and just hook it up to what i already have done that was for the dual or would i have to change things up to make it work?
Thanks
Josh
Thanks
Josh

Rep Power: 0 it depends on the amp. find the specs of the amp. How much rms power does it put out and at what ohms. Then find the resistance of the subwoofer. Most likely it is 4 ohm but make sure. Then wire accordingly. whatever your amp puts out at 4 ohms is gonna be how much power your sub gets

Rep Power: 322 Luckily, the JL 1000/1 put out the same amount of power regardless of driver impedence [as long as it's between 1.5 and 4 ohms].
As long as the 12w7 you're looking at is somewhere between 1.5 and 4 ohms, you should be good to go.
[might want to turn the gains down a little to prevent it blowing again]

Rep Power: 0 i agree w/spunky, and i have had just a few jl products in my car, there is no single voice coil w7 that i know of, and if you had it all installed prof then you shuold have a warranty for 1 year ( unles syou didnt buy the stuff from an aut. dealer ). But like was said b4, the 1000/1 has circuit board tech that will take care of itself.

Rep Power: 307 If you guys have no clue what you're talking about, please don't post. The 12w7 only comes in SINGLE 3OHM VOICE COIL

Rep Power: 0 thanks for the help, i def will turn down my gains on my amp whenever i get a sub but i'll have to figure out how to first lol i'm dumb when it comes to this stuff thats why i had to pay someone else to do it all for me. another question though... what if i just wanted to buy something not as powerful to do me until i had the money for another w7, say a JL w3v2 or w6. Would that work, like could i just turn down my gain a lot or would that never work with my JL 1000/1 cuz i've had this amp on the back of my seat for almost half a year now serving no purpose ... thanks guys

Rep Power: 0 Did you set up the amp like it says to in the manual or no?
you need a 50Hz test tone and a digital mulitmeter and follow the tutorial on the website http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=143
