Confuse in tires size

Hi All
I have Honda CIVIC 2005 with sunroof, automatic and when I look into my tire size so its P185/65 R15 and with 4 bolt pattern now I have a plan to buy snow tires and I'm wondering how can I very tire size before buying, actually one of the seller person told me that if the tire size is 14 inch then it also works and another person told me that if tires size is P195/65 R15 instead of P185/65 R15 then it also works. Please let me know how come I know that which tires sizes will fit into my CIVIC.

In addition, If I have 15 inch all season tires and will replace it 14 inch snow tires then does it hurt my car performance and grip. Please advice.

Regards

Muzokh

Re: Confuse in tires size

I stole this from ezone muhaha...

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

put your standard tire on the left and play with the size on the right...if it's not a perfect match your speedometer will not read correctly.

BTW tire code is P195/65/R15

'P' = passenger
195mm wide
65 means that the size of the sidewall is 65% of the width of the tire
'R' = rim size 15"

so the difference from 195 to 185 isn't huge

EDIT - oh it has a sunroof so that changes everything. j/k

If you keep the overall size of the 14" the same as the 15 the sidewall will be thicker and yes diminish performance. They are winter tires though...not meant for high speed or extreme cornering....that's why they don't run indy cars in the snow.

...but much better grip than all seasons at temperatures below 7C

Re: Confuse in tires size

like said, overall diameter is what determines if tires will change speedo, acceleration.
maybe the 14 steelies will be lighter than a set with 15 steelies.
