Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

Can anyone help me out? I want to utilize this Wilwood Kit i bought but I also want to be able to run slicks at the track 24.5/8.5/15

Anyone get any suggestions? Different size rotor? isnt that what the problem fitting it is? the rotor size or is it the caliper?

Re: Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

Why buy a 12" rotor and then want to run little rims?
You're getting one or the other.
Call Brian at Fastbrakes. He sells a kit that uses a VW Corrado G60 rotor (11") with a wilwood caliper that clears a fair number of 15" wheels. See if his kit uses the same caliper as you got, then get some VW rotors. You'll probably need his bracket to get the caliper in the right place.

Re: Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

well I would be using 17'' for street use... they dont make the slick i want to run at the srag strip that fit 16'' wheels thats my dilema.

Do you think that I really need a Wilwood BBK or Do you think SS lines, Getting Rotors, fluid, New Pads will do the job? Remember I have a K24 swap..with a decent amount of power (279hp 222trq).. Right now my brembo blanks and hps hawk pads are not doing the job.. they worked well when i only had 161hp and 131trq..lol

Re: Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

Power has nothing to do with stopping power. The car weighs basically the same. it takes just as much to stop it from 50 as it did before. The stock brakes couldnt pull it down from 100 no matter how much power it had, so I still, dont see the major point of needing 4 pots. I dont see the need for a huge rotor, other than wasting inertia. 11" brakes (either the Fastbrakes Wilwood kit, DC2Rs, or Legend brakes) ought to scrub off the speed just fine.

Re: Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

Um.... Drag racing isn't exactly all that tough on your brakes, so you don't need the greater amount of thermal capacity that larger rotors give you.

Any way, what part of your braking system are you not satisfied with? Do you feel that it takes too long of a distance to stop? are you not happy with the pedal feel? what?

Re: Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

Stopping distance = Tire

Pedal feel = Every thing else.

So, for shorter stopping distances you need tires that have softer compounds. So what tires are you running?

For better pedal feel, you need to look in to reducing compliance within the brake system.

Couple of easy things to look at here, such as braided brake lines and Higher coefficient of friction brake pads. other more complex things would be running calipers that have a piston area smaller then the OEM caliper, or going with a slightly smaller master cylinder.

I would suspect thats your #1 problem right there.

AXS's are performance ALL SEASON tires with a tread wear of 420... In the racing world we call those rocks. as in the compound is nearly as hard as rocks...

So yeah, you want to stop faster.... buy some good sticky summer tires.

Re: Wilwood BBK and Slicks?

Just a note, most of the top tier tires have very stiff sidewalls, so they may cause some launch problems if you are planning on using them for drag racing.

other wises... here's a short list in no particular order

1. Falken Azenis RT-615
2. Kumho MX
3. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD (Not the KDW)
4. Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R
5. Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07
6. Hankook Ventus R-S2
7. Toyo Proxes R1R

ect ect ect...
