first time brake installers.

Either today or this friday, i will be trying to install new brakes on my car. I'm just wondering how hard it was for people the first time they did it, what kind of problems did you have, and so on, i have greys diy up, and others up. In addition my dad knows alot about cars, but since he's 1000 miles away, all ican do is talk to him.

Thanks for any help you guys offer, and wish my luck.

Re: first time brake installers.

Hardest part is probably compressing the piston back in to get the pads in.Are you just changing the pads or pads and rotors?
Either way use the DIY and you should be in and out. GL with it.

Re: first time brake installers.

Front ones are easy, hardest part is taking off the rotor screw if your gonna replace the rotor. And for the rear, I wouldnt want to mess with it.

Re: first time brake installers.

I did this last weekend.. Calipers, rotors, pads in about 45 minutes a side.. Just remember you have to replace both sides if your replacing the pads and/or rotors.

Re: first time brake installers.

Just the pads... If you have a clamp, one of the ones you pump tighter with your hand, that works the best for getting the piston back into the caliper.

Re: first time brake installers.

might be too late, but i changed my front pads the first time last weekend and it took me 2 hours for the right side cuz i was taking my time taking videos and pics and making sure i was following the steps properly, then about 30 minutes for the left side....overall, i was surprised how easy it was..
Now the rear shoes or changing the rotors/drums might be another story.

GL, hope it went well (oh and yeah, open ur brake master cylinder and watch the brake fluid level when ur compressing the piston-someone correct me if i'm wrong cuz i cant remember if its called master cylinder.)
