03' Rim Question

Alright, I bought my car with 18 in. Motegi ff15's. They looked great but I had real bad wheel rub and when I put the stock rims back on for winter I noticed a nice gain in acceleration & even gas mileage. I figured that is because those rims weighed 33lb`s! So I have decided to go with a lighter weight rim but wanna go as big as possible. Does anyone know what the biggest size I can get and what the offset should be or any of that? I`ve been looking at the Motegi Traklite and Traklite 2's but I have no idea if 7 in. is too wide for an 03' Civic or if it`s ok to get a 17 in. tire as long as I get lower profile tires or what...i`m pretty new to all this still and all these different numbers and terms are getting me real confused. Any information that can clarify things for me a little would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Yea I got it now, if a moderator sees this thread and wants to delete it feel free. I tried search but was a little confused by so much information at once but i got it now. I`m gonna go with the 16x7 Rota Boosts, the carbon fiber style ones. And then follow the formula for 10mm smaller size tires for 1in. bigger rims or however that goes. If anyone feels like responding to this before its deleted, is 15.85 pounds heavier than the 15in. 5 spoked wheels that come with the 03' EX? before anyone bitches...I already tried search and was unable to find much on them. Again, any information that can be given would be real helpful...

Ok, believe it or not soon after my last post I found the information I was looking for in another post which had info from BoilerrMaker1 in it. Now I have another question...probaly a dumb one but i`m gonna ask anyway. With the above listed rims i`ll be losing a little over a halfpound on each wheel...but i`ll also have lower profile tires so i`ll lose some more weight there right? and also, i`m new so someone please tell me what rep'ing someone is and how you do it?

any kind of rotational weight you can loose is great. even if it's small. rotational weight affects the car a lot more than stationary weight. i forget the ratio, but it's substantial.

rep - click the little scale looking icon next to the red triangle on someone's post. then click approve and write a comment. you can try it with me if you like!

Tires vary greatly in weight by construction. Its not a given that a 205/40/17 tire will weigh less than a 215/45/17. It still needs enough reinforcement to hold the car up. Within a given size, you could see 4-6 pounds difference between tire A and tire B... especially since some tires are going to nylon and carbon fiber bands, while others are using all steel.

holy crap, 33lbs per rim?? I thought my old motegi 17" were bad @ 25lbs each rim.

You'll know a huge difference with you rota's. I now have 17.5 lbs 17" enkei's and I feel a big difference.

btw, Motegi's are crap.

just checked, the ff15's in 18x7 weigh 22.5lbs, not 33 lbs. You'll still notice a difference with your new rota's though.
