Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

Fuzion HR1 all season $300.00 for 4 tires including taxes/balancing/mounting
185/65R/15
Treadwear - 400
90k and counting
80 highway/20 city
dry grip 9.5 first year/8.5 after 50k
wet 9 first year/7 after 50k
snow capable 7
road noise 8
comfort 7 but my struts have been leaking
cornering stability 8 first year/7 after 50k - definitely less grip now on wet pavement than when new

buy again? yes if i dont have extra money, no if i got money to buy summer tires then winters
I live up north so i say again it is snow capable but i never used winter tires so i got no clue how effective snow tires are. Just drive slow, i only got stuck once in 1 foot deep snow going uphill cuz it was a corner and i cant get my speed going to help me climb up. Everybody slips and slides in icy conditions even people with snow tires.

Fuzion HRi $250 shipped (stock size)
3k miles
Mostly city
Dry Grip: 7
Wet Grip: 6
Snow: NO
Road noise: 2 Very loud!
Comfort: 7
Buy again: NO

for the first 2k miles, it feels like you are driving on ice. luckily i took a 2000 mile road trip and wore them in quite a bit. now they perform adequate at best. road noise is extreme, even at low speeds like 30mph. these have zero snow traction and break loose at 2 mph. the only positive is it has a softer rubber so it feels smoother going over bumps when cold. will never buy again, altho they are not bad enough to throw away now. if you downgrade from a more expensive tire, you will get a bad surprise with these lol. you get what you pay for i guess.

Would you buy then again - if I want all season, quite, soft riding tires? yes
Further constructive comments... Going from Potenza to Turanza, I knew I would be giving up performance. And that's what has happened. For an all season grand touring tire, it performs well and it is very quiet and comfortable. But it understeers more, there is less steering feel, steering is less accurate, and I can't take corners as fast as I used to. Hydroplaning resistance isn't good as Potenzas. That's ok. I wanted a smooth quite ride with decent handling and wet performance.

about 60k before replacement - if I didn't corner so hard so frequently, tires could have lasted longer.

Road Noise 2 (on smooth roads its still quiet)
Comfort 3

Would you buy then again maybe-because of high road noise
Further constructive comments...
It's a great tire. Gives you long life. It's makes the Civic amazingly fun to drive - gives you razor sharp steering, amazing grip and handling. Resistnace to hydroplaning is amazing as well. The ride is harsh and road noise can get quite bothersome, but I think it's a still good tradeoff betwen tires life/performance/comfort - with more performance bias though. If you have a bigger car with a better suspension design, such as BMW, the road noise and comfort may be less of an issue.
Turanzas wore out after about 60k of use, due to bad alignment. I wanted to try the Michelin Pilot Exaltos but tire shop had only three. So, I went with the Pilot Primacy MXV4, thinking the "Pilot" in its name might mean the tires have some sporty feel. Boy was I wrong. Primacy is more comfortable and quiet than Turanza LS-H, but I lost more steering/handling capability than I had hoped. I think Turanza LS-H had the perfect balance between comfort/handling.

Michelin Pilot Primacy MXV4 195-60H 15 (on my 4th set of tires at 169K miles)
Mostly Highway
Dry Grip 5
Wet Grip n/a - hasn't rained much
Snow capable? no snow where i live
Road Noise 10
Comfort 10
Cornering stability 6
Would you buy then again-Nope. Turanza LS-H with Tockico blues made my car ride/handle like a BMW 3 series. With Primacy, it rides/handles like a Buick Century.

BFGoodrich Control Plus, 185/65/15
I believe 760
They're sitting in the garage
95% City, 5% Highway
Dry Grip: 4
Wet Grip: 3, very bad, especially with lots of standing water.
Snow: 4
Road Noise: 6, Fairly quiet tire.
Comfort: 5, better than stock
Buy again: no, for the price not a very good tire. I would consider some Pirellis or Toyos, or even Falkens, before this tire.

All in all, not a bad tire, but I don't trust them in the rain. (Had a couple scary skids). Like stated above, consider other tires.

Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60, 185/65/15
No treadwear due to being a winter tire
In the winter months, 99% City
Dry Grip: 6, good for winter tires.
Wet Grip: 7, very good hydroplaning resistance
Snow: 8, braking and handling are vastly improved over any all-season tire I've run, though when accelerating, only a mild improvement.
Road Noise: 3, Little noisy, but for winter tires they're fairly quiet.
Comfort: 6, fairly good, but this is due to the soft rubber compound.
Buy Again: Yes, though would consider other tires.

Amazing tire! But it seems to be wearing a little fast. Next time around, I would like to try some Nokians or Toyos.

Toyo Proxes 4, 215/40/18
Treadwear: 400
90% City, 10% Highway
Dry Grip: 8, excellent, well at least enough for a Civic
Wet Grip: 9, great hydroplaning resistance, turns-in almost as if it's dry.
Snow: Never tried, but I can't imagine them being very good even though they're all-seasons.
Road Noise: 5, Little bit noisy especially when cold, but can't complain
Comfort: 2, the tire sizes fault, being a 40-series sidewall, but alot better than I was expecting.
Buy Again: Yes, especially for drivers who want good wet traction. But, I want to try the Falken ZE-912 or the Yokohama Parada Spec-2

trying to buy new tires but i've only been through 2 sets, the stocks, and nexens. looking for something new, either between falken ziex ze-912 195/50 r15 82th, mit rim protection at $50.60 each tire or toyo proxes 4 195/50 R15 86V at $61.20 a tire. just wondering which of the 2 yall would go with. especially seeing as how the post above this one reviewed the toyo's but at a 40 sidewall and a bit noisy. thanks in advance for the input

Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position $500+ total
1k miles
City 98% / Highway 2%
Dry Grip: 9 - Amazing response, no slip
Wet Grip: 10 - my old tires were like boat hulls, these are like anchors
Snow: Haven't tried yet!
Road noise: 8
Comfort: 9 - 17" rims defeat this quality, but it's comfy
Buy again: In a heartbeat!

Bridgestone has always been a favorite of mine, even before I knew how to drive a car... so I picked this tire mostly out of self interest. The RE970AS is the latest All Season version of the well respected Potenza line. The tread pattern is aggressive and deep and the sidewalls look very nice. The tires only whisper slightly, but otherwise are silent and very comfortable. There was a noticeable increase in grip and stability over the previous tires I had (Riken Raptor). After reading reviews on Tirerack.com, it turns out that the RE970AS it the highest rated AS tire, even more so than the Pirellis and Khumos for daily driving applications. Needless to say, I'm in love with these tires. If only they were a bit cheaper :P

Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

General altimax HP around $400 purchased thru dealer (i know)
2k miles
city 99% highway 1%
dry: best grip, near impossible to break loose with an auto civic
wet: these are directional tires so i assume they will be fine, but hardly any rain here
snow: havent really driven with them but supposed to be good
noise: 8 they are fairly quiet tires
comfort: 8 compared to all the tires ive tried, the soft sidewall makes these extra cushy even at 35psi and on lowered suspension with stiff shocks and bushings. has a good luxury feel without the mushy cornering.
buy again: probably

overall impressions: this is a great tire for a civic. you need to break these in for a good 2k miles before you see how amazing they handle. the tire itself looks great, very beefy and good pattern, directional, shines up nice. at 35psi you will get less rolling resistance without really affecting the ride quality. this is my first time trying general but after reading the reviews saying they were as good or better than michelin, i had to find out. turns out they are worth it. on the off chance i take a freeway, these are very stable and not very noisy. sometimes it tends to track grooves in the road on bad patches, but i expected as much. the only negative is since the compound is soft, they will wear out faster. not an issue to me because with the little amount i drive, i will prolly age them out to 6 yrs before i wear them out from mileage.

Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

yeah, these are about as quiet as it gets, similar to the old bridgestone turanza LS-H i had a long time ago (discontinued, but they had rock hard rubber and sucked in the cold). the generals are as quiet or quieter than michelins ive tried. quiet tires do help, but civics are far from being sound insulated and you will still hear the usual wind noise and under car turbulence unless you custom fab a belly pan, make the car more aero, and pad up the doors/floors with sound barrier like 3M thinsulate. i do city driving pretty much 100% now so noise isnt an issue for me doing at most 45mph. but if you do mostly highway, might want to look at some aero mods like lip kit, lowering springs, smaller/low profile mirrors, under car pan, etc. as well as adding some insulation to at least the door panels.

Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

Thank you GearBox. Today I just finished installing my Tokico Blues with Tokico springs I got them from Craiglist for $60 only believe it or not I call it the ultimate steel Tomorrow doing the rear ones. For tires I have goodyear assurance in front and they are very very quite but not much grip. My car slips in the rain because of them.

directional tires should be the best in rain, just make sure the tire shop mounts them correctly so the rotation arrows are spinning the right way.

Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

Good Year Triple Treads

Bridgestone Potenza R32

62k miles Not bad for OEM tires
City 20% / Highway 80%
Dry Grip: 8 - Not bad grip on dry when new.
Wet Grip: 4 - Pretty craptastic.. nuff said
Snow: NO... Though I did for 3 years.
Road noise: 2 - MEGA LOUD, though I'm wondering if it's my car.. all tires seem loud.
Comfort: 5 - Not bad I guess, don't pay much attention to that though.
Buy again: No..nonononono.

Pretty crappy tires for the price, I think you can do wayyy better.

50k miles Did not last as long as I expected, but my expectancies are high.
City 20% / Highway 80%
Dry Grip: 7 - Not bad, they got worse as they wore down.
Wet Grip: 6 - Not bad again, but they got bad towards the end.
Snow: NO, bad for all season tires, hardly any grip.
Road noise: 3 - Loud directional treads, lots of noise.
Comfort: 6 - Not bad I guess
Buy again: No, way too expensive for what you get.

Overall disappointed in Good Years "High End' all season tire.

Michelin Hydroedge

25k miles - Still using them... A LOT of tread left, might go to 70-80k
City 20% / Highway 80%
Dry Grip: 7 - Not bad for all seasons.
Wet Grip: 8 - Pretty good wet traction, expected more from Michelin though.
Snow: NO, but they do okay...
Road noise: 3 - Loud directional treads, lots of noise. Especially on concrete roads.
Comfort: 7 - A bit better than the other two.
Buy again: If they go over 70k and go on sale for 400 installed again yes.

Good tire, would not pay the full price for it though.

Re: 7th Gen Civic's TIRE REVIEW THREAD

Michelin Harmony

Got 22k on them, 11/32nds new, down to about 10 or 9. Impressed with the dry handling, off ramps I can really goose it without worrying. Very progressive and predictable tire, at this point I can almost tell you the angle and speed they will start to slip 4 seconds before it happens.

Makes every commute that much more fun because I know exactly what they can do yet they let me know when they're going to slip on me. Good feedback.

I know a Civic is not a sports car but goddamnit give me 5 speeds and I'm ve ve ve vtec all the way home. (I'm aware an 03 lx doesn't actually have vtec)

Good gas mileage, I can beat on my 03 LX all I want and still get 32. As evidenced by the less than 2/32nds wear over 22k miles the tires are going to last.

Nice quiet tires, at 55 I can hear my wiper relay click on the left side of the dash over both wind and tire noise. Impressive on such an econo car if you ask me.

MICHELINS ARE WORTH THE MONEY ALL YOU CHEAP ***** OUT THERE. There is a damn notebook page of paper worth of tire touching the road on the vehicle you dump all your money into, don't cheap out on that rubber!

Like when I sold tires for a living; "do you want a nice tire, or do you want some rubber in between your rim and the road?"

(I should state I'm not looking for a performance tire, but the best all around. Longevity, comfort, noise, dry and wet grip. I've auto crossed these mother f***ers and had blast and didn't get my *** handed to me.)

Gearbox, how would you rate the fuel economy with these tires?
Any notice drop, anything unpleasant about it?

I heard that because of their softness, it tends to get less good fuel economy since there's more friction between the road and the tire itself.
