Re: New here and to working on cars

yes to the door from an 03. Body panels from 01-03 are interchangeable. Suspension from 01-02 is interchangeable. Engine parts from 01-05 are interchangeable, with the exception of the upstream O2 sensor, which... I'm not gonna lie. I forgot if they changed to a wideband in 03 or 04. I think it's 04 when they changed, since 03 is when they changed the crash bolt size for the front struts.

technically no for the 99 engine. Older engine in newer chassis is typically a no-go. Not to mention, that's a whole lot of custom fab you'd have to do, and for a B16 (assuming you're tossing in a 99-00 Si engine), that's a lot more effort than worth. If you're talking about dropping a D16 in there (96-00 DX/LX/EX), the custom fab definitely isn't worth it. If you're looking at a performance increase from an engine swap, K20 swap is where it's at.

New here and to working on cars

Have a 01' lx and the engine blown a while back atm it's just sitting in the back of my house not sure weather to part it out or fix it up? Like i want to keep it but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble seen a couple engines on fb and offer up..... but should I put the time into it I like the car but is the time, money and energy worth it? Also what other years can I put on this model?

there's a lot of good information and well informed people on this forum man. If their username is bold and italic and colored green, orange, or blue, that's my handpicked team to moderate this forum, since they all know their stuff.

Re: New here

You’ve chosen a good platform to start with. They’re pretty fun and easy to work on once you familiarize yourself with it. The entire car can pretty much be taken apart with only a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 17mm.

Re: New here and to working on cars

It ultimately depends on how the rest of the car is. If it’s good, then I would, and obviously vice-versa.

For engines, go ‘01-‘05 civics with the D17A1 engine to keep it easy. That’ll come in the LX or DX (there may be another trim but I can’t recall off the top of my head). D17A2 comes in the EX and the K20A3 comes in the Si, so avoid those.

Re: New here

To make it nice and readable, here are the things you can interchange:
  • 01-03 coupe/sedan: bumpers, hoods, fenders, lights, spoilers, and other body parts including doors, handles, etc.
  • 01-05: engine/transmission stuff, just about any interior item, most suspension parts, wheels, brakes
  • 01-02: front struts (crash bolt was changed from 14mm to 16mm in 2003)
  • 04-05: you can install rear tail lights from an 04-05, but it requires a socket change or some MacGyvering for... I think the rear brake light. Or was it the turn signal. One of the two.
  • RSX: shifter assembly (if manual transmission), engine if you feel like doing some work, rear sway bar, e-brake cable assembly (if doing a civic Si rear disc conversion), Front seats (one hole needs to be drilled out a bit). There's probably a lot more, but those were the common ones.
  • Civic Si hatch: rear disc brakes (takes some doing, but pretty much bolt right in, but you'll need a different e-brake cable. 2002 retained the 4x100 lug pattern. 03-05 they changed to 5x114.3), front seats (one hole needs to be drilled out a bit), engine if you feel like doing some work (same engine as RSX, in fact). There's probably a lot more like the RSX, but those are the common ones.
Universal stuff:
  • Wheels: as long as they have a 4x100 lug pattern and have an offset of +35 to +45, they should fit. 14-18 are common sizes people put on the 7thgen. 19s and 20s if someone was feeling frisky.
  • Lug nuts: as long as they're M12x1.5 thread pattern. If you have OEM wheels, they need to have a ball seat. Most aftermarket is 60-degree conical. Honda Mugen rims have a 45-degree conical shape.
  • Shift ***** (if you have a manual transmission): if it has an M10x1.5 thread pattern, you're good.

19 and 21 in some places, 8mm for like.. air filter housing bolts if you don't own a set of JIS screwdrivers (that looks strikingly similar, but not the same, as a phillips head screwdriver). 3/8" drive extensions are your friend.

DX/LX were the primary ones. Things like VP (value package) were dressed up DX's. Special edition is a dressed up EX.
