2005 Civic question

I bought a 2005 civic dx and it is missing and piece of plastic that goes in the wheel wells. You can see all the way through the engine compartment from one side to the wheel well to he other. My question is, does anyone know if this is called the lower engine splash shield? Is this the right piece?

Thanks in advance, Dave

If you mean you can see all the way through-- from one side to the other --where the steering tie rods go through the wheelwells, that's supposed to be wide open. No shields at all.

Re: 2005 Civic question

If I would take off both front tires and look into the wheel wells at the springs on the struts, you can see the back of the engine and firewall. It's definitely missed a couple of pieces. You can see the holes where the plastic retaining tabs go and mate with the outer plastic shields in the fender well.

Re: 2005 Civic question

Ok there's 3 major chunks of plastic coverings that are supposed to be under the front of the car and can be easily torn out/destroyed/missing.......

one is the part you linked to and the other 2 are wheel well liners that protect the inner fender areas.
Hondas name in the parts catalog is FENDER, R. FR. (INNER) or FENDER, L. FR. (INNER)
Items #3/6 in the pic

#5 is the item you linked to earlier, the leading edge attaches along the bottom of the front bumper cover and one of the upright ears sticks up in the fender area to cover up the drive belts on the engine.

3 and 6 are the fender liners, they are easy to get ripped out the car after a little damage or someone forgets to secure the leading edges.

#4/7 don't seem to get lost very often so I doubt you're looking for those. They cover up the gap at the rear edge of the fenders in the area between the body and the doors.

Catalog pic is from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
You'd have to pick out your own car, I just guessed at a random year and body style to get a picture. This group is listed under 'front fenders'

And as I said earlier, there is nothing to cover up the holes where the steering linkage extends into the wheelwell areas. You can always see from one side to the other. CRV was built the same way. Check out another car to verify.

Re: 2005 Civic question

Look at another 7th.

I had to do a double take when seeing mine from the right angle.
