Hi,
I have a Honda Civic EX 4 door 2002 Automatic.
I have to move from Noth West PA near NY State to Houston Texas.
The closest U-Hal station is about 25 miles drive. I want to rent a U-Box pod
and put my stuff in it and return it to return it to U-hal station (25 miles drive one way).
Can I pull it with my Civic? I remember in instruction manual it says no.
I have not installed any hatch on it!
If I have to install the hatch, do you recommend it?
if the answer is yes:
Would you recommend I use same hatch and drive to Houston TX (15 hrs drive) while pulling the box? If so how much maximum capacity (lb) I can use?
If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Is there even a question here?
You CAN do whatever you want with the car, it's all yours.
From page 193 in your owners manual:
Your vehicle is not designed to tow a
trailer. Attempting to do so can void
your warranties.

Hatch?
Helpful pictures of "hatch":
Um....
and hatchet
OTOH, here's a hitch -- as in trailer hitch:
OK that's enough fun for now......
Your trans is already a weak point, being an 02 and all.
Towing something might push it over the edge.
A manual trans might be more tolerant.
You need to consider not only the weight, but the aerodynamics of a trailer too. Aero drag will kill you in a tiny underpowered car like that.
I probably wouldn't want to haul anything much bigger than a bicycle on a bike rack, or a snowmobile or a dirt bike or a row boat on a tiny trailer, and even then only for a short distance.
While I was looking for images of "civic trailer hitch" I saw this and laughed
I know this is an old post, but in case anyone asks again in the future the answer is yes. This is my Race Rig hooked to my 2003 Civic, which I switched over to my 2005 Si-G a few years back. The trailer is a 4' x 6' Vee Nose and it pulls great behind both of the Civics I pulled with. The trick is to keep the nose of the trailer slightly elevated though, because if it's angled down at all it works like a spoiler and causes a LOT of drag and I can barely reach 95 - 100 kmh! If it's slightly angled up at the nose I can do 120 kmh all day.
The u-box is almost twice as tall, with no design intent on aerodynamics.
Not sure how big a U-Haul "pod" is, but about a decade ago my 02 EX manual dragged this U-Haul trailer from Baltimore to Dallas to Seattle without any problems. Spent a year in Dallas in the middle though. Still going strong too.
I am anxious to hear if you were successful with your trip and if you would do it again. I am considering the same
