Tint my tail lights?

Hey ya'll so I have read a bunch of threads about the legality of tinting your tail lights. I wanna do it cause I just bought smoked assemblies and smoking out the tail lights would be a great compliment. The only thing is that alot of the threads said it was illegal if you can't see it within 500 feet. I have an ace in the whole though, I have a rear window break light and a spoiler break light, do you think that would help me skim by??

Re: Tint my tail lights?

Depends where you live? Most states have a law against tinting the tail lights. In Maryland you only get inspected once and that's it, so you would only have a problem if a cop pulled you over. In Delaware its every 2 years and if you get the lazy guy at motor vehicle then you won't get caught, but if you get the stickler then you will. I don't think having the third brake light and the wing light working will be enough but maybe.

I've also heard cases where insurance companies didn't cover rear end collisions because of tinted tail lights. Just another bit to think about.

I've heard of that also!

Never thought about the insurance thing. That could definitely happen.

good point! Just another reason for insurance not to pay. Not only that, you'd probably lose in court.

Agree. I think my OEM red lights accent the car(since that might be all you see of me). Plus I want you to know how far ahead I am when I pass your ***.

Re: Tint my tail lights?

Haha, we'll the official say is that it is illegal, I talked with one if the sheriffs I work with, she said anything that is different then the oem parts is illegal, but for the most part it's a second offense thing, like tinted windows, if they are limo tinted out you won't get pulled over for it, but if they pull you over for something else, they can tag you. Yeah, insurance can deny your claim cause you tampered with the lights, but seriously, a car would have to have their headlights off at night not to see you, and since I posted this, I've seen 10 cars atleast with tinted tail lights and you couldn't even see inside the housing. Unfortunately I have been asked not to tint them as I am on someone else's insurance and they can't take another car accident to their insurance which is okay cause I am gonna return the assemblies I just bought, they look cool during the day, but they totally defeat the purpose of having HIDs and I could see better if I held a flashlight out the window. Ima start a new thread asking about good aftermarket halos, feel free to find it and toss in your .02
