should I get it?
should I get it?
Hey guys new here. I have been in the suzuki 4x4 world and now need a commuter so im looking for a civic. Found a 2002 civic ex with a 5spd trans yesterday for $600, problem is it has about 180k miles and the timing belt broke and bent valves. So now im looking at what it will cost to get going and if its worth the hassle.Body and interior are in amazing shape besides the headlights which are beyond be able to clean up but I would replace them with hid projectors anyways due to my bad night vision.
Anyone know of a good place online where I can get prices on a 1.7L vtec motor?

How handy are you with a wrench? Do you have access to a machine shop? Replacing valves and (essentially) rebuilding the head isn't necessarily hard to do, just time consuming, assuming you have the know-how.
We have resources to help you out, as well as websites (like www.hondaautomotiveparts.com) to get genuine Honda OEM parts for cheap.
You'd just have to buy a head gasket kit, timing belt parts, new valves, oil, and coolant.
With my busy schedule, I could probably have that car running in 2-3 weeks and another... Lets say maybe $500. That is, of course, everything else on the car is indeed fine, and all you need to do is replace the valves/recondition the guides, and every gasket you disturb in the process.
TL;DR
if I had the money, I would, but I know my way around a D17 engine bay

To xRiCeBoYx-
I dont neccessarily have the know how but can kind of get myself by enough to a point and then pay a guy at work to finish it since I work as a Lot Tech at a Honda dealer. Been looking on ebay at motors but all ive found are ones that have about 100k miles and I think with this having about 180-190k miles that my buddy assumes it has and the cost of replacing the head I think I might as well put one of those 30k mile motors in but cant seem to find a good place that sells them. Do you know of a good place to buy motors from online?
