Hilbert2010's Detailing Thread

So lets try this again. On this Thread I'm going to talk about products i have found that work the best for cleaning your car, processes i use, and ways to make sure it stays that way. The process I'm going to explain is the process i use and learned from my experience at my work. This process is going to be a "Winter Prep" for those who live in the areas where it snows and salt is used.

Find a good spot to work in. shade is what you want. if there is no shade start in early morning. open up all the doors, hood and trunk. from here you want to take an All purpose cleaner(APC) such as Adams to spray door, trunk, and hood jams. let the APC dwell for a few min will you start to spray the wheels, tires, and wheel wells with your favorite products. i like to use Sonax wheel cleaner on the wheels, rubber cleaner from Griots on the tires and APC on the wheel wells. now go back to the jambs and scrub and rinse with a boars hair brush to remove dirt and grim. rinse with water but be care to not spray water all over. now before moving back to the wheels, i like to use Griots engine cleaner on the engine. APC will work too but Griots seems to work better. let that dwell on the engine bay. back to the wheels, to start with the wheel wells. use a boars hair brush to scrub wells and rinse carefully. always inspect for spots you have missed. now move to the tires. scrub tires with a good tire brush. do not rinse the tires yet. now move onto the wheels. using an assortment of wheel brushes and four finger mitts, scrub wheels and be sure to get the barrel of the wheel. one over looked spot is the lug nuts. rinse and repeat on all the other wheels. now move back to the engine. use a boars hair brush to scrub engine bay. rinse with engine running without dousing the engine.once rinsed close the hood and make sure all other doors and trunk are closed. now onto the wash.

if you would like me to keep going with this give me some feed back. Thanks. with enough feed back i will post pictures of a full detail start to finish on my car as I'm getting ready to prepare it for winter.
