01-02 vs 03-05, acceleration???
hi all i've noticed that my 02 ex with the d17a2 is slower at low end acceleration then my mom's 05 d17a1. even though both are the same engine until vtec switchs cam profiles. the a1 even has that smaller exhaust manifold.
if you just touch the pedal on the 05 it jets (maybe the throttle cable is just too tight, lol)
even before all my intake and exhaust work i noticed this.
i know the 03+ modles have a wide band o2 sensor. is there anyone who knows why the 05 is quicker?
i've kept up on oil, oil filter, plugs, the battery is golden, cabin air filter, checked fuel filter, cleaned throttle body, cleaned vtec solinoid.
every now and then she won't start, i have to pull the key out and crank it again and it will start up within a normal rang, what could this be? starter?
couldn't get the egr valve off, havn't changed o2 sencers, havn't changed any internals like valves seals or done valve clearence.
if it's because there is something not up to spec with my car i'd like to know since i'm a hell hound when it comes to maintenance. infact i just did an oil change today plus air in the tires and even tackled the fuel filter with help from gearbox's diy, i'll post a full pic diy later.

The D17a1 has a 9.5:1 compression ratio and the D17a2 has a 9.9:1 ratio, so you should feel a power difference throughout the entire band.
Your engine is probably a bit slower from start because you have the intake and exhaust, although you gain a bit of top end power with them you lose power in the bottom. Other little things also affect acceleration and can add up to what feels like 1-2hp; cheap tires, a worn suspension and broken engine mounts all hurt you coming off the line.
I can help you with getting the egr off if you really want to clean it, I did mine awhile ago.

the tires arn't cheap and the mounts are tight.
what tools did you use for the egr? i couldn't get a short socket and wrench in there. i think i striped the bolt with a shitty open end wrench.
