classy weight reduction
hello all my civic friends! i'm looking to cut some weight from my 02 si-g (ex). but my car is my baby and i want it to look nice more then i want it to perform. i don't want any tips like rip out your back seats or trunk liner, nor do i want to ac delete. i know of the expensive reductions like rims, carbon hoods, doors ,trunk ,racing seats... but i wanted to know if anyone knew of any hidden parts of the car such as panels inside the doors that could be taken out or parts that are metal that peices can be drilled out. if there are no such things that's cool but i thought i'd try.

Re: classy weight reduction
just decide what you dont need and remove it. light rims are cheap too btw, you can get 11-14 lb rims for $100 or less each. stock is 18 lbs. search around the forums for old weight reduction threads. lots of info.
Johnny Tran stole my S2000 that I had over $100K in mods.

Re: classy weight reduction
Carbon fiber dash/door panels and light weight rims.Personally,I think the carbon fiber dash looks real nice instead of that stock material dash.I don't know what that stock material is called.

Re: classy weight reduction
And there is carbon fiber or kevlar. Lighter rims and there is probably a couple other components that can be removed but dont remember what. But it will not be much off weight reduction. Nothing to notice. I just think its funny when people rip apart there hole back area thinking they really did some weight reduction when they took out maybe 50 lbs at the most. Nothing to notice there lol.

Re: classy weight reduction
getting everything done in CF would be HELLA spendy though
x2 on the lightweight rims. My 17x7 buddy club P1 racing SFs are 17.5 lbs a piece (weighed on a bathroom scale) without tires. Stock 15" steelies are something like 22lbs a piece without tires.
Re: classy weight reduction
Why do you want to reduce the weight? Are you drag racing or something? If you do want to drop some weight in your ride and look classy than rims are a good way to go, just don't put huge chrome wheels on it. I think that aftermarket exhaust is lighter also. You also want to keep the balance of front to rear in mind. The better you are 50/50 the better your car will handle.

Re: classy weight reduction
i want to reduce weight to gain low end acceleration. and yes i drag, and no you don't want to know where, lol. as many have heard my 02 auto is now as fast as a stock manual. i do have aftermarket rims but for looks not performance. black five spoke rims with chrome liner, that show off my sexy yellow brakes. 17's that probabley weigh a bit more then the stock rims did. at least the wider profile and performance tred, make far better grip then the stocks did. doing a brake stand i'd burnout at 2500rpm, now it's about 3000/3200rpm. for now i can't spend any more on my car other then a few cosmetics around $100 each. with my exhaust, sterio, interior, engine bay and rims i've spent about $1400 moding (shoulda bought an ebay ram intake though... woulda saved 200 after shipping and buying a name brand cone filter, but live and learn). next i'm just going to spend some on exterior till next sumer. so double halo projector lights, halo fogs, black mesh grill and jdm red honda logos and 06 red si logos in place of my silver si logo. nothing major for a while. thought of selling the civic and picking up a type s rsx. but i love my car and can't do it =(. eventually i'll get a piggyback ecu and start a turbo build, then sell the car to some young kid like i am and buy a faster car (that's like a 5 year build plan).

Re: classy weight reduction
If you're willing to put up the dough for all that.. but even then, you still have all the interior unnecessary ****, or heavy OEM stuff..
Re: classy weight reduction
Unless you are willing to spend a butt load of money or rip out anything that doesn't make it go fast, then you are wasting your time. You will not gain any acceleration from changing rims. You would have to do alot more than just that. If you aren't trying to shave off 1/10th of a second, then don't worry about weight savings. You rmoney/time would be better spent in a $600 nitrous kit.

Front and rear crash bars are located behind bumpers. Gut the doors. Remove airbags. Removing the yellow paint from those stock calipers will save a few ounces too.

Re: classy weight reduction
unless you feel like dying next time someone hits your car, i wouldnt go that far. bumpers and crash bars in the door are pretty important. airbag, well it could go either way.

Re: classy weight reduction
He doesn't seem like he wants to take anything else out and seeing as now his auto is as fast as a manual, he would be in front of everybody and thus unable to get into an accident.

Re: classy weight reduction
lol, i was thinking along the lines of carbon hood, trunk, doors... replacing the seats for lighter ones. that kinda thing, not riping out stock saftey equipment, lol. and yes i know it only takes one car, mine, to crash and die but that's what makes speed fun (i don't do it in populated areas just in the country every now and then).

Re: classy weight reduction
stock seats are 32 lbs btw. so yeah they make really good adjustable seats that are 25 lbs, and much lighter than go down to 10 lbs.

^ Yes just like a lighter flywheel, but niether of those things will make any noticeable difference. With 1XX HP behind it on a 2xxx lbs car it is a waste of money. He would be better off going on a diet!
I still say money would be spent better somewhere else.

Re: classy weight reduction
Op, correct me if I'm wrong but you have an auto trans. Doing an Auto-Manual swap will make a bigger difference in power, acceleration and fuel economy than any lightening you can do for an equivalent cost.

Re: classy weight reduction
for one i don't even know why we're all on this thread anymore, lol
two, to mad dog, there's almost no way i could loose weight. after it didn't work with my girl about a year ago i lost over 15 pounds from 165 to 150/148. i'm like 155 now at 5 foot 9, not exactley anything left to loose, lol.
third, i can't afford any mods for a while but in good news i just installed dual halo projectors and a black grill =D, will post pics soon.
