ok, so i have a flowmaster 60 series muffler, magnaflow high flow cat, both 2.25. i just need a header for my d16z6 now. should i get a 4-1 race header or a 4-2-1 header? i hear that the 4-1 has more power, but is it going to hurt the engine driving daily? should i just get the 4-2-1? dc sports im thinkin any other reasonably priced brands? whats on your car? 100% stock everything. intake i have but not installed. no engine mods at all.

I had a 4-2-1 on my D17... its designed to allow the exhaust to flow faster, so if you have mods that increase your power output significantly, get the 4-2-1, if your just rocking an intake, then just get a 4-1.

thanks triz. kinda wishin i would have more replies to this thread.. i need some help please! im rockin the stock d16z6 with an aftermarket cone air filter (i know like 25 hp right? haha got it for 10 bucks) until it blows, then i plan on probably a b18c1 swap. i've done some research and they say 2.25 inch exhaust is the best to go with for a non turbo d16. i might run duals, but i already have one muffler, and cat, both 2.25, just need some decent reasonably cheap headers to complete and hear it! also what should i get???? a one piece or two piece? 4-2-1 or 4-1? thank you

I got the 4-2-1 On my Z6. Works fine, I use a straight pipe, So I am sure it'll work fine on yours w/ Cat( No Harm To Engine). Mine has a 2.5'' exhaust(tubing) and a 4.5'' outlet.. I would go with a smaller outlet than 4.5 though. I have NO 4th or 5th gear power. all though my 0-130 MPH is great, Once I shift into 4th and 5th, Not enough back pressure too actually take the hell off. Id say you should be fine, I am sure your exhaust setup will work better than mine.

try 10hp tops lol. 2.25 is good for an n/a build. dude dont gsr swap that thing build a nasty single cammer jammer lol. get a 2 piece 4-2-1 it will allow less flow but will allow for proper back pressure. get some z6 exhaust valves and stick them in place of your intake ones. cam it......cam it.....toda, skunk2, crane any of the above are great. d17 crank, vitara rods with ferrera raised heads, y8 intake mani, ls throttle body, prelude injectors, and any bolt ons you wish to add, that would make a wicked nasty n/a sohc right there, on a very reasonable budget.

Higher performance without spending for a turbo kit. I've heard about the cam kits; does that increase power the high or low end range? I've never heard of using exhaust valves on the intake or using prelude injectors. Also, is the y8 manifold a step up from the one I have now? I have a SOHC VTEC now, but I can't hear/feel it even kick in.

from what i've heard, the y8 manifold is a little better than the stock one. but i just bought a 4-2-1 two piece header for my d16, megan racing i found for like $175 online w/ shipping. i think the aftermarket header will give me a little more than the stock y8 manifold. sadly, our pull when vtec engages in our sohc is nothing near a dohc, and not the same "nos" sound. personally, i'm going to put headers, air intake, full 2.25" exhaust, high flow cat and muffler, and run it till she blows.. THEN get a dohc like a b series and soup the hell out of it. just a little work to the sohc to make it a little faster until i swap..
