95 civic lx sedan 1.5 out of time/died while driving
I recently bought an old beater 95 civic lx 5 speed 1.5. Its a crapbox and needed a couple things i was just going to replace. Anywho, i drove it to my shop where i was just going to relook a couple things. On my way there the car just completely died out at an idle after i gave it gas. I tried to start it back up thinking i stalled and the car cranked but wouldnt turn over and could hear the exhuast backfiring. When i did get it to start if i gave it gas in neutral it would fall on its face and shut off. I towed it into the shop and tried to start it again, no start. I had fuel pressure, i have spark, but it just wont turn over. I know distributors are common on this but im not sure if thats the issue. My next question was is it on the right timing? So i pulled the timing covers off and verified that timing was off by a 2 and a half teeth. I have yet to put it back together after adjusting timing. Could this be an ignition switch problem as well? Im not sold that the car is going to run good after i put it all together after having adjusted the timing. My 97 civic was better... Any insight greatly appreciated!

Fix the part you know is wrong then move forward with the next issue.
If it jumped time on its own then you better figure out why and fix that.

Issue solved. Igniter was giving little to no spark, lots of oil on the spark plugs. Decided to just replace the whole distributor assembly. Distributor, new spark plugs, new wires, and valve cover gaskets equals a fix. Still the uggliest car ive owned but runs well.
