Gas leaking from fuel filler neck
Gas leaking from fuel filler neck
Here's a head scratcher. I was cleaning out my trunk this weekend and noticed old varnished gas on the inside of the trunk coming from where the gas cap and inside body connect in the trunk. I opened the fuel door and noticed gas actively dripping from the cap. I'd filled up the day prior, but had driven 60 miles or so already so it couldn't be over filled. The car had been sitting for about an hour as well. I took the gas cap off and depressed the door to see if the fuel would drain but the entire filler neck was full, and it was still slowly pouring out. It's like the gas tank was full of pressure or something. I replaced the gas cap but am still concerned that I may have a problem with my vacuum system or fuel system.
Anyone have any ideas as to what the hell is going here?

What car is this about? (Post this info whenever you start a thread please)
Had to look at your history....89 Civic something?
No clue from me, that car is really before my time.....would have to look closely at it....
Rubber O ring gasket on the fuel cap is cracked or split?
Fill neck rusted out?
If you fill the tank and keep clicking to get the next dollar in it, stop doing that.

It's an 89 Civic LX. I do top off the tank, but this was happening after id driven 2 or 3 gallons worth of fuel from the tank, so it couldn't have been overfilled at the time.
The new gas cap seems to have solved the leak for now, but I'm concerned that I may have a vacuum problem.

Slosh? Parked on an incline or tilt? IDK.
but I'm concerned that I may have a vacuum problem.
Did the original gas cap have a vent, and the new one doesn't?
Or something else?
