1992 Idle shaking
1992 Idle shaking
Hey everyone,
I have a 1992 Civic DX manual base model. I mean base, it doesn't even even have AC. The car's great; I've had it over a year now through the worst of Chicago winter.
The only problem I had was the timing belt snapped one day on my way to work. I got it towed, and the guys there replaced the belt and got it running again. (Despite my boss telling me there was a 90% chance it would never run again).
It's been a few months and I haven't had any problems, but I can hear a constant whirring in the engine. When I'm driving and slow to an idle, the car will occasionally start to rumble and shake more and more until it suddenly stops. So, there's the whirring and the rumble that builds and stops.
But otherwise, car doesn't overheat, burn oil, or actually have any problems. I'm just concerned about the noise and what it might mean. Is it nothing to worry about? Should I take it to a mechanic? What kind of things could it be?
Car claims to have 160,000 but the odometer is finicky so I'm sure it has way more.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
