Sup Everyone,
New Member and just picked up my first civic.
its a 96' coupe, primed black, lowered with idk what type of shocks
the Engine I have no clue on, lol.
I Picked it up from my sis-n-law, running, still waiting on papers from here
but it needs smog.
I was looking at the motor , it says D15b8 on the motor and has
a 16 valve head. don't kno anything on this. tried a search and comes up it might have had a head swap? not sure.
Any help will be Appreciated.
Also will be doin some work on it, Shave it up, build a center console, going to be picking out colors for interior and do some dash work.
don't know what to use on this car, being my first time owning a civic.

Welcome to the forum.
Did you pull the valve cover and check how many rocker arms there are inside?
Reason: I think one can swap valve covers without swapping the head.
(Not positive, but I'm pretty sure it can be done. 'Now you have the name without all the hassle of actually getting 8 extra valves!')
OP:
If it runs good, then good (for now).
If this really is a Frankenstein swap, I think you really should make contact with whomever built it and get a list of what parts came from which cars and what years and stuff so when something breaks you can find parts with a minimum of hassle.
OBD 1 or 2?
Which PCM does it have?
How do you get codes now?
If sold within a family, is there a clause about no smog necessary?
IDK, I don't live in an area that has smog checks.

That info appears to indicate this is a swapped 16V head on top of a swapped early engine, IF it really has a 16v head.Originally Posted by sdaidoji

sorry about the mix up, it is a 95' I was half asleep typing last night.
I haven't got a chance to take the cover off, im going to check it ina bit
Its still an obd1 I believe, and the person I got it from she was the 3rd owner, she doesn't know the last owner who did the work, but I am on a mission to find out. again it is my first civic, last time I had a Honda was over 10 years ago, so not sure what is good to add to it as in , mods. My background is more of a mini truckin, but always digged the Honda civics

Maybe it IS the correct engine for that car.
I can't see someone swapping an 8 valve engine into anything, that would be a downgrade for most.
Is the car a USA CX? Hatchback?
Maybe someone just stuck a 16v valve cover on for looks.
