QUICK!!!! Timing belt issue.

I have a D15B7 engine in a 92 civic. Changing the head.

Does the crank gear HAVE to be removed?? If so, whats the best way to lock the crank from turning???

Re: QUICK!!!! Timing belt issue.

Go to autozone (or similar) and rent a Honda/Acura crank pulley holding tool. Or buy one for $50 like I did.

Or a chain wrench. That works too

Re: QUICK!!!! Timing belt issue.

You are still going to have to move the crank pulley to the tdc marks when you put the new head on mate. Or at least I hope you do and not damage your new head.

Re: QUICK!!!! Timing belt issue.

OK...got some serious issues.

Remember....I bought this as a race ready car that was built and had been through several owners......

got the balancer off in pieces. Got the head off and saw no visible damage. top[ of #1 cyl. was clean compared to 2, 3, and 4. No water in the cly.

Block is....D15B7
head marked....P08-1 with cam gear marked 1.6
new head marked...P23-4

I am so messed up!!!! I know ZIP about a Honda...thses numbers mean nothing to me. I have read enough posts the there are a bunch in interchangeable parts AND adjustments MUST be made to prvent catastrophic issues.

I am so MINDF&%KED right now!!!

Re: QUICK!!!! Timing belt issue.

p08-1 is from a JDM D15B OR a US D16Z6, which is a vtec head. Someone did a mini me buy your info.

The numbers P23-4 looks to be a D16Y8 head, also vtec.

You should be able to bolt the new head on, but make sure you have the cam gear for a D16y8 or your timing will be off.

A y8 cam in all 96-00 EX models
