Steering Wheel Rumble

When my 1990 EF Hatch hits 60 goin down the highway my steering wheel begins to rumble... or vibrate... I asked my auto body teacher why this was happening... he said it was the ball joints being worn out... is this true b/c i would like to go more than 60 with out the rumbling...

Re: Steering Wheel Rumble

Well when was the last time you had the wheels aligned and balanced?

My truck would do that at 70+ because I kept getting flat tires and just buying replacement ones without getting them aligned.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Steering Wheel Rumble

Also.....Choppy tire tread, wheel bearings, axles.......

Ask someone with good mechanical experience, not a bodyman.

A quick test drive by someone with experience is best......at least it is for me.

Re: Steering Wheel Rumble

could be many issues but yes the first thing to suspect is bad tires if tires are good jack up the front of your car and grab each tire and shake checking for play from top to bottom or side to side if so the list is, inner outer tierods, wheel bearing, ball joints, axles but you would hear a clicking noise if it was axles when turning and always be sure to check for siezing calipers or bad brakes show ur car love and check everything and after fixing issue then get an allignment but not before allignment would only be off if incorrectly installing outer tie rods
