failed smog

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum. Today I went to have my 93 with a v-tech engine to be smogged and it failed miserably. Now with these older cars its really difficult to distinguish what's wrong. I failed across the board. Here's my test.. at 15mph my hf ppm was 164 and at 25 it was 91 my co at 15mph was. 55. And at 15mph my no ppm was at 1920.. way over the Max. Can anyone give me an idea of what the problem is? Thanks

Re: failed smog

are all of your censors running right? Ive lived in areas in the past where my car had to pass. Sometimes my cars would fail because the ecu wasn't picking up the censors and mixing fuel/air incorrectly. One bmw i had failed because of a lambda censor on the exhaust was faulty but there was no check engine light on..

OR...

Did anyone remove a catalistic converter and put on a straight through?

did you drive the car at least 30 mins right before the test? any car with a cold engine will fail.

So your saying the ecu could be faulty itself? Anyhow there was a catalytic convertor on it but I found out later it was the original one so I replaced it. The old one had 117,000 on it so even if it wasnt the problem it needed a new one soon anyhow. It passed after that but not til I fixed the evap leak I had.. Faulty charcoal canister. Go figure

No i if it failed with the charcoal canister then that was the problem.. Sometimes if the ecu doesnt receive all the information from the censors it wont get the air/fuel mix right and you will get poor performance and higher emissions. Dont let paranoia make you go crazy.. Drives ok now right?
