My VTEC will not kick in!

I have a 93 civic with a d16 and the Vtec is not kicking in. The Vtec was popping off extra hard yesterday but now its not working. Do I need a new VTEC?

Re: My VTEC will not kick in!

try removing the vtec solenoid in the back of the engine head and clean it out and also the gasket. sometimes sand clogs it up. be sure to oil up the valve again before reinstalling.

you may as well try to clean it first. if it doesnt help, get a new solenoid its around $150 i think.

Re: My VTEC will not kick in!

no. it only changes the cam from one profile to another. the actual performance comes from the different cam profile. vtec solenoid is simply a switch.

I would pull it see if the screens dirty if so buy the gasket for it. It comes with the screen. I wouldent cleen it and put it back in though because the chance of it leaking is high and new one is $30 or $15 on ebay.
