JDM 95 E-EK3 Civic VTI Just purchased

So I am in the military stationed in Okinawa Japan. I will be PCSing in 2012 and want to take my Civic with me and was wondering what people know about importing Civics to the States and how much it will cost. I know the military can do it, but they have very strict regulations.

I just purchased for $1500 a JDM 95 Civic E-EK3 VTI. It has the D15B with 3 Stage VTECH. I really like the car and would like to bring it with me. I know going to Europe its easy to bring, but I want to look into importing to the states as well. As I haven't received orders yet.

The reason I got a deal on it is I know the guy, and Cars near military bases oversea sell really really cheap as people PCS and can't take the car with them and they can't leave with a car in their name.

Overall the condition of the car is great, body isn't dented/scratched, and it runs great. Problem though is Corrosion due to being on Okinawa. The Corrosion is a 5 on a scale of 1-10. I don't have a car in the states, so I have no problem throwing money at it, as I want it to be my main car. The other thing I have considered is pulling the engine and shipping it back to the States and throw it into a 1st gen Civic.

Foreign vehicles cannot be imported into the U.S. unless they are over 25 years old and therefore exempt from regulations, your car is currently only 16 years old.

I know you can import vehicles younger then 25 years, if you get new American Windshields and you have to get the doors reinforced. There is a conversion process, to make it street legal in America. I was just wondering if anybody knew the full extent of the process.

It's difficult, which is why you don't see r34s, s15s, jdm NA2s on American streets despite there being people willing to spend very large sums of money to have one. Google is your best bet on finding information since this is done so rarely.

It's a federal law, all of Canada can import cars that are only15 years old.

Just one more reason why our country is better
