I just bought a 95 Civic with 1.6L Vtec & was driving and the engine just cut out! So I stopped & looked under the hood for anything loose or off and couldn't find anything. So it started and went to put into gear and it stalled again, no check engine light, nothing. So I tried starting it again and would only turn over but would not catch. I was late for a doctors appt. so I was pissed! It started again and drove it about a mile or two and cut out again, I left my boy with the car and walked to the doctors meanwhile he was stuck on the road so we ended up getting it towed.

This morning I had it checked and they had it running for 2 to 3 hours and drove it and of course it ran fine and didn't cut out. Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know of anything? I am going to keep my OBD II scanner on me but the engine light did not even come on so I do not know what to do!!!

Is it an immediate shut off, or does it slowly lose power and then die? In any case if you just bought the car you should check the basics: check the plugs, wires, distributor cap, battery terminals. If those check out, check the to see if the fuel pump is priming and test the alternator. I had the same issue with my car twice, first time it was my alternator, it would kill the car all the time, but the car would start up right away. Second time, my fuel pump was done and my car would cut out and not restart.

Sounds suspiciously like a clogged fuel filter to me. It could also be a loose/broken wire or connector, check the grounds real good.

Found out the distributor was fried, thx guys!

Im having the same problem with my 93 civic, I changed the dist cap, rotor button plugs ect, looked at the inside of the distributor looks fried, Im looking for a new one now. didf you ever find out what your problem was?
