stock p28 with USDM gsr

stock p28 with USDM gsr whats up my friend has a EG coupe with a USDM gsr swap. will a stock p28 run ok with it? like will vtec still pop and everything? i know he used to have a p72 and after popping vtec a couple of times the knock sensor would cause the check engine light to go on and it wouldnt pop after that you would have to turn off the car. Just wanted to know if the knock would go on on the p28 stock and if vtec would still pop.
