Unhappy 91 civic hatch acting real weird

ok so i am not that great with cars i will be the first to admit. so i should not have bought this hunk but i love civics. so anyways i bought a 91 civic hatch it was running ok and then it would not start. i had to keep jumping it. and if i jumped it, it would start. well then if i jumped it it no longer started but it would push start... well i started reading forums and what to do. checked starter relay was no good, replaced no change, new battery, cables, grounds, and terminals. still nothing, pulled out the clutch switch and jumped it.. i heard a new sound and ran with it. but it did not start still. all along there has not been a single error code up to this point. but i said ok i heard this sound lets check the starter a little connector was detached so i reattached still nothing.. took a crow bar to the solenoid the sob started but then i got a check engine light code 16. i keep checking it to see if it still started and it has been but from everything i have read on all of these forums none of this makes since. and is a bit different than everything i have read if anyone has any ideas please feel free to email me or post something i really need this car to be somewhat reliable. I am in hanford California... johnathandamrow@gmail.com

Re: 91 civic hatch acting real weird

Check the following :
Spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, rotor and test the ignition coil.
If you notice that the problem mainly occurs when the car is hot or when the weather is hot then check the main fuel relay.
If none of those help pick yourself up a Haynes manual and go through the troubleshooting.

Angry Re: 91 civic hatch acting real weird

ok the car was starting great for 3 days but the battery went dead after some poking and proading i found out that the stereo was drawing alot of power when off obviously not hooked up properly.. so i disconnected the stereo and charged the battery. now the car will not even turn over the starter relay will not even click now. and with the charger hooked up while trying to start it i get a buzzing noise and a sound of like poping electricial. could not trace the sound have no idea where it came from except i know it was under the dash. i am at witts end i have no idea what to do...it did not matter if it was hot or cold when it has started.. plugs wires etc are all new and working...help please

Re: 91 civic hatch acting real weird

Test your starter relay, test the starter motor and test the ignition switch.

Its either the starter or the ignition switch.
