head gasket?

Hey thanks for lookin, just got a 1991 civic dx w/116000 on it. car is super clean but has motor prob. Im pretty sure its a head gasket, white smoke, milky cap, pretty sure I saw a little water out the tailpipe also that seemed more than condensation, no milk in the crankcase so far tho ????

OK the frst day I looked at the car before I bought it it started, with a little white smoke ran ok then got real bad with acceleration and bogged down when put in gear (was not driving dude would not let me just sitting in the pking lot).Came back after thinking about it 2 days later and the dude had put some kind of liquid head crap in it told me the lower rad hose blew and he cut and fixed it. Started it up and it ran good for like 45 mins at idle and in gear and did not over heat but then the hose to the heater (I think) blew out by the valve cover and shot that liquid head crap every where.

SO should I just replace the head gasket and call it good?
Is it a real hard diy job for a newbie?

should I put more liquid crap in the radi. for a tempoary fix to do compression test etc to make sure its head? is that stuff bad for the motor? will it clean out if I do use it, and do the head later?

I have not driven the car yet so I dont know what else (tranny etc.) could be wrong with it so would hate to do head and find out more bad news right after.Would also hate to mess up a possible good motor by going the cheap route. Help. what would you do? sorry so long. Thanx
