Having problems getting civic into gear!

I have a 95 Honda Civic DX manual and i am having troubles getting the car to go into gear lately. I noticed this starting the other day with cold temps. I would be driving and go to shift and i would have to push the clutch to the floor as hard as i could to be able to shift into gear. Today i was parked and getting ready to take off in reverse and with the clutch in i let of the brake and i started going in reverse. Keep in mind i still have the clutch to the floor. After that i pumped the clutch and i was able to get it into gear. Is this a sign that my clutch is going out? I have 201,000 miles on the car.

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

does it happen once the car warms up? could be the fluid is just too cold. and try changing the fluid too, usually new will shift better.

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

It was doing it even after the car was warm and i even parked it in my heated garage for about 4 hrs and it was still doing it. But for some reason last night i drove it and all of the sudden it was back to normal. I probably should change the fluid in the transmission since i do have 200,000 miles on the car.

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

Sounds to me like your problem is in your clutch hydraulics system. Could be you need to bleed your clutch master/slave cylinders, but my experience is when this happens with NO OTHER recent changes is it is likely your master or slave cylinder has failed (usually the slave seals are leaking by).

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

BLEED YOUR Clutch cylinder located to the left of the exhaust manifold in the transmission... it the same steps as bleeding your brakes..... i had a problem like that i would turn it on and it would not ingage into any gear.... i would turn it off and try to put it on reverse before starting it but it would turn on weird and try to move back already.... once in gear it wouldnt chanbe gears and i would also floor the clutch.. my friend and i bleed the clutch slave cylinder and it ran right!! its been 7000 miles and its still good and it cost me $5.... instead of $200+ for a clutch replacement

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

Right now my civic has been stuck in my driveway since Wed night. I tried starting the car while it was in gear but the car would just stall out like when you start it and let the clutch out while in gear. Keep in mind that my clutch pedal is pressed to the floor during this time. The temp here has been down to -30 with windchills around -50 so it could be that it is just froze. I'm going to push it into my heated garage this weekend to see if that will help.

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

My car has been in my heated garage for about 24 hrs now and my clutch pedal is still limp so im guessing its my clutch master cylinder.

Re: Having problems getting civic into gear!

I noticed that my fluid level was at the MIN mark so i added a little but im not sure if it has always been at that mark i filled it up yesterday and i got the clutch pedal to work for a little bit enough for me to get the car in my garage but the level has changed since i filled it. Im going to try bleeding it before i replace it to make sure.
