New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
Hondas are new to me. I've owned nothing but GM since I have had my license. My friend has a 95 coupe with a D15 swap and a few other mods. I'll be searching around when I have more time. But any quick info is appreciated. It will be my younger brother's car, and I'm trying to get him set in the right direction. I understand the search button, so no need to rip into me on that lol. But any info you can pass my way would be appreciated. The motor swap and honda in general is a whole new ball game to me and is a lot to take in from my quick 10 min lurk around this section. What potential is in the D15?

Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
I got a few questions.
1st: is that the pictures of the car?
2nd: Are you sure its a 1.5l?(because from the pictures the valve cover says vtec, they never made a 1.5l vtec) or is it a 1.5l with a 1.6l head on it?
3rd: how much is he paying for it?

Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
1) Yes, the red/silver is the current paint scheme on it. The solid red pic is a previous pic of the same car
2) VTEC-D15B engine http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/ Or so says my friends link in my first post. Jeff (owner) stated "...a new JDM motor. Its a D15B VTEC. Just slightly more hp and torque, but its got around 35k miles on it. Runs great so far!" Quote taken from his home page. I trust the guy, been a good friend of mine for a few years
3) $3,400 includes all mods listed in the first post, 38k miles IIRC

Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
What exactly isn't a great deal? The car has 38k miles on it, is in immaculate condition, decent start to upgrades, etc. It's better than the 100% stock 03 focus he was looking at lol
Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
It's not the car its the engine that has 38k on it. He says its a one owner car on the website but he bought the car in 2003??? That's the kinda stuff to keep an eye on. Make sure the swap is done correctly and that there are no loose wires and hoses. no CEL and such... 3500 is a bit much for a 1995.. swap or no swap. Your car is on that website as well is it not??? Seems like you can talk to the owner about it and get a good idea about what the car is like.
P.S. if he put 38, 000 km on the engine and its a swap, you have to assume the engine now has 98, 000 kms on it. Most JDM engines that come over the big pond have 60, 000km already on them.

Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
So he swapped in a lesser engine? Hmm..
And no, my car is not on his site. The cars under "Erod's Cars" are all his. I have never met the other guy. I'll see what all I can get from him in more detail.
This is my cobalt:

Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
Nice Cobalt. Clean looking car. Offer him 3000 and see where it goes. Maybe even offer 2500 but only if you really like the car. The engine was swapped for a reason and it's probably not a good one. How many KMs on the actual car?
Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
Yeah the original engine code is a d16z6, maybe he bought it from a different owner who had swapped it out only god know why it was swapped.. that is a kick *** cobalt not a fan of them but im liking yours.. i really like the shorty wing.. i cant stand the big SS wings
Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
Do kidding, the high rise spoiler is annoying. It also sits at the right height that it blocks view of the light bar on a car behind you if it's a cop car lol.
I'm still trying to get info on why it was swapped and what not.

Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
yo jdmtech.com orlando based import company, imports 1.5 vtecs all day long. It's a d15b. Promise you they do exist.
Re: New to Honda, possible owner of '95 EX coupe
and not all eg's came with a z6, some came with the b7 econo motor. Ive also seen b8's but that was mostly in cx's. Ex's and Lx's were actually more common to come with the b7's rather than z6's. Its kind of a love hate thing though with it. I mean a z6 comes stock with more hp and tq, and a vtec salenoid which makes it a bit more of a task to boost. While as the b7's were less torquey and less hp, but came with smaller pistons which are more primary for boosting.
