AC belt removal 91 Civic 4-door DX

I can't figure this one out. The PS belt is simple, so is the altenator belt, but to get to the only bad belt, the alt belt, I have to remove the ac belt. Can anyone give some advice about how to get this belt out. Thanks

Gene

To remove the A/C belt completely, you must remove the bolts from the lower motor mount. This will allow just enough sag so that the belt can be slipped out between the body and the mount. Now, if you only want the A/C belt removed from the main pulley, then all you need to do is loosen the tension on that belt. With the right extensions you can get to that bolt from the top. You'll have to, as I recall, loosen the lock bolt from the front, but then you adjust the tension from the top. Hope that helps.

Re: AC belt removal 91 Civic 4-door DX

you have 91 dx, i have 91 lx
there should be no engine mount in your way, it was introduced on later models.
ac belt is the outermost belt and is tricky only because no one appears to be able to find a release bolt for the pulley. including myself.
release bolt for ac pulley is the center bolt for it. how simple is that! of course no one can figure that, who would have thought of this...
when you have it released, stand right above the ac compressor and look straight down at it.
in a small tunnel between PS bracket and engine block and that large bracket that runs from engine mount to the engine block, looking down, you should be able to see a 12mm bolt head. front corner of the compressor, next to engine block. that's ac tensioner bolt, tensioner slides up-down on a bracket. just turn it counterclockwise, pulley moves down, belt turns lose.
please, keep in mind that those engines are interference engines, timing belt must be done down every 60K miles. i just mention this cuz getting belts off is like half way done into this.
