engine swap 94 ex

I am the proud owner of a 1994 ex 2dr coupe v-tech. she has been a great car for me but at 300,000 miles the engine finally has taken a big dump on me. and i figured since i'm going to have to replace the motor anyway why not throw in something with a little more power. i've narrowed it down to either a b16,b18,or a k20. which would give me the most bang for my buck and which would be the easiest swap? also any other suggestions as far as engine swapping would be much appreciated.

Thumbs up Re: engine swap 94 ex

One thing That I love about Honda's is that you can fit a lot of different types of engines in them But From what I think is that the b18 is one of the funnest engine to mod and just to add they are vary fast. I was planning on putting a b18 in my 94 coupe but didn't have the money. My friend just put a b18 in his 930 hatch and it barks all the way through fourth gear. For the Money I would go for the B18. Its all about what you want though, Hi End Or Low End......

Re: engine swap 94 ex

same thing on my mind, what engine to swap into my 94 civic ex coupe. although my engine is under 150k and running smooth, (knock on wood), when it blows what should i swap? or rebuild or replace d16 and turbo? all motor? or i am thinking b16 or b18? most common swaps for these civics as far as i have heard and read...

d16z6- 125 hp, 106 ft-lb, 9.2:1 compression, 7200 RPM redline
b16a 1st gen- 158 hp, 112 ft-lb, 10.2:1 compression, 8100 RPM redline
b16a 2nd gen-168 hp, 116 ft-lb, 10.4:1 compression, 8400 RPM redline
b18c1- 170 hp, 128 ft-lb, 10.0:1 compression, 8100 RPM redline
b18c5- 187 hp, 131 ft-lb, 10.6:1 compression, 8200 RPM redline

but all at a cost. especially the c5! im thinkin a b18c1 or b16a 2nd gen but still in the air... and about the b15 & b16 swap, sorry i dunno, but bumped

Re: engine swap 94 ex

B16 and B18 are the most common swaps done, because the are affordable and have lots of good bolts ons available. The b18c5 is extremely expensive though, around $5k last time I looked, so I wouldn't suggest going with that motor unless your very serious about building up your car.

If you want serious power and you have a decent budget go for an h22.

Re: engine swap 94 ex

thanks mindbomber, but h series? i have never heard of anyone putting an h series in a 5th gen. specs? members cars? anyways, while the topic is at hand, and the top of the forum... the b18c5 is wicked, but 5k for the swap is too much for me, and i would just want to buy another car! but, the b18c1 and b16a2 you can find for about 3k complete swap. or rebuild kit for d16z6 for cheap as like $500, but probably spend a little more and get a decent one so you can soup up that sohc to the max and show those dual cammers how we roll! but no, seriously, i think i'm getting a b16a 2nd gen swap when my engine blows. 3k, b16 bolts up nicely in my car i hear, going to love the 8400 redline (vtec sounds amazing, + the higher the rpm the more pull), and as mindbomber said, lots of bolt ons for these engines, sounds like a great engine. also i hear the smaller the engine (b18 vs b16) the less distance the pistons travel so less wear, especially when at high rpms. let us know what swap you do!

Re: engine swap 94 ex

I don't know if anyone here has an h series in a 5th gen civic, but it's been done, it's just not as straight forward as B series.

In 1-6th gen Civics really anything is possible if you have the skills, someone in my local club even has a c30a in an eg.

Re: engine swap 94 ex

so what do ya think.. b18c1? or b16a? i heard you can use your d16 motor mounts for the b16, so that would save a couple bucks, although i would replace them to be safe. i think the b16 would be good, turbo it, and all the bolt ons of course. i expect to get 250+ hp to the wheels in my civic after i swap! i'm planning on the b16a 2nd gen, decent price, great stock specs! swap will cost i guess 3k and i plan to spend the same on the turbo.. + will have to buy the turbo manifold, new exhaust, etc. anyways, any reason you would pick a b18c1 over the b16a? or a different swap?

Re: engine swap 94 ex

I'm partial to the b18c1, thats a pretty bullet proof motor and a little easier to build up than a b16a.
