Re: Engine Swap?

Well your options are only limited by the size of your budget.
In a perfect world were we all had unlimited fundage, a k20 swap would be a perfect deal. But the life on the motor you already have is basically, just broken in. If your talking about boosting the d16, well you would (in my opinion) be a lot better off spending that loot on a b-series swap. If you were really leaning towards a turbo, put that on a b18a motor. Due to the availability of the non-vtec powerplants, these can be rounded up for pretty cheap. You could then craigslist the motor/tranny you already have to get the funds up. Keep in mind that staying in the non-vtec realm, you can essentially re-use the same engine harness, with very little modification(just adding length to a few wires) saving some cash in the end.

The k-swap rules if you've got the cash, but 9 out of the 10 folks that will read this don't.

Hope this helps,
Brad

Re: Engine Swap?

In a B-series for the most low end torque the LS (the tranny that comes from the factory with a non-vtec {example-b18a,b18b}) In a d-series try to find a Civic Si,Crx Si tranny, or if it is in your budget, upgrade to a hasport cable-to-hydraulic conversion. The conversion makes your problems of finding a reliable used cable tranny -1. Hydraulic transmissions are a really the way to go. If you do the conversion, the tranny donor of choice 92-and up sohc civic, for d series. 94 and up integra the b series.

As far as time goes, a good tune with a turbo on a d series is a good runner.
There are some amazing things that folks have done with a d series.
But a B series can bring that little extra push without having to own a machine shop.

Hope this helps,
Brad
