Replacement heat shield?
Replacement heat shield?
I just bought a 1982 civic (See https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...nda-heads.html for more on that)
and it has a huge crack in the heat shield.
There's a hose that leads from the heat shield to the intake that I guess is supposed to supply heat to the cabin, but the part connecting the hose has rusted/cracked right off.
Anyone know of anywhere that I can find a new heat shield for a 1300 CVCC engine or how I'd go about re-attaching the hose?

Holy old-*** Civic! I love it man, how much did you pay for it?
On to your hose. What that bad boy does is help the engine warm-up faster so the carb doesn't flood it out. It's not 100% necessary depending on where you live.
But as far as replacing it? How handy are you with a drill, a blind riveter and a pair of tin snips? Good luck finding an OEM replacement. I would just pick up a piece of sheet metal and fab one myself. All that hose does is provide a little vacuum from your intake to get some heat into the carb to help the AFR. The opposite of a cold air intake. I would comb the local junk yards, but they are probably all in the same condition.
Holy ****. Majestic actually carries them! Go here: www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and plug in the car's details in the parts catalog. Then go to the CARBURETOR INSULATOR- MANIFOLD ('82-'83) section and buy part #13. It's $45 but it is the part you need.
Here's the direct link (Click me) and the photo.

Re: Replacement heat shield?
Hey man, thanks for all the info you definitely know your stuff.
I paid $150 for it, which is a little less than 75 quid in the UK.
I've been to a few junkyards and was only able to find one other Civic from this generation, though the engine was being sold as a whole and I couldn't take pieces off of it.
I don't think I'll end up spending the $45 for the part, as it's just a winter beater anyhow, but I appreciate you finding that site for me.
If it's not one thing it's another though...I just got back from school and I went over some bump and CLUNK...so I pull over and find that the rear driver's side shock has come through the tower bit...I guess you get what you pay for, but classic nonetheless.
I'll end up taking this to the campus' automotive program to get them to weld in a suitable panel for a bit cheaper than a regular garage would charge.
