89 civic SENSOR PROBLEM w/ check engine light. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 89 Civic just started turning on the check engine light. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, pcv valve, air filter and distributor cap, but its still coming on. It usually comes on after a few minutes of driving on the freeway or at higher speeds. You can feel the rpms shift a little bit when it turns on, but the car still runs fine and doesnt overheat or anything. All fluids are fine. Do you think it might be the O2 sensor and if so how do you check it. Please help me figure this out. I heard there is a code box under the glove compartment that reads out what the problem is. Is this true??

Re: 89 civic SENSOR PROBLEM w/ check engine light. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's true for my 93 civic (the code thing) but the only way I found out was the good old haynes manuel m8. I'll try and hunt down the instructions and get them on here for you.

Sorry m8 a big page worth of instructions would take me too long to type. Got it scanned though if there was somewhere i could post or send it.

Re: 89 civic SENSOR PROBLEM w/ check engine light. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the computer is under the carpet on the pass side. lift it up to see the computer. there is a lil red light on it that flashes. count the flashes and that will be the code for the problem. you will have to make sure that the check engine light is has came on to beable to see the code for the problem.. so you may need to drive it and get it to come on. leave the carpet pulled back at this time so you can see the light. {pull over first to count flashes} there is a slow and a fast flash for say a code 8 it will flash fast 8 times ........ for a code say 14 it will flash onece stop then 4 fast flashes. . .... Check that then get back to me with the code.
