My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

Hello all, I finally got my Honda Civic, after months of bugging my wife I was able to buy an 89 hatchback. The thing runs great and is fun to drive. My plan is to totally tweak it out. What I need is help on is what the first mods should be as this is a completely stock car. I know I want wheels and tires so here is the first question. I was thinking of 17 inch rims, but don’t want to low of a profile tire as this is my daily driver. So if you have advice on what my max is without fender rub that would be a great help. I also want the billet muffler for that great sound. The muffler place I called today said it was a little tricky since the muffler is on the driver side on these models. I will eventually get a body kit so it may not matter if it is put on the passenger side for now. Any advice on this would be a great help. Also if anyone can recommend a maker of body kits that fit well for this model I would greatly appreciate it. I want cold air intake and all the other little details that go in to a tuner car. But for now I need advice on where to start. I am thinking of going with some different lights to start, also no passenger side mirror on this car so I would like to know if anyone can recommend some mirrors for me as well. Thanks all. I will post pics so you can keep track of the progress I am making with my “Nigiri-zushi”or my Sushi Roll. (Right now it looks like the little white rice mound that is the base of sushi)

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

personally i like starting with suspention...

not a big fan of the basic intake, exhaust, header mods.

because the yeald verry little performance with civic's.

turbos are fun but expensive. I dont know how much that helps you but thats were I start.

PS: i read your whole paragraph, on my second pass.
and please dont get a body kit on that car.

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

in my oppinion its tastless...

i personally like a little class when it comes to cars

even if it is just a civic...

I like a nice, clean, low ride.

But again this is just my oppinion on whats "good"

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

I suppose it depends on what your goals are. You said you want a muffler for the sound, wheels and a body kit - this would indicate that you intend on having a little more show than go - at least for now. If so, get some clean 17s....you won't be able to get away with non low-profile tires (over 55s'), as it will rub, not to mention look wierd. It shouldn't kill your ride quality with stock suspension.

Of course, the next mod would be suspension related, lowering (properly, please!!!) the car a bit to clean up the wheel wells.

Id go exhaust next if you must, but remember that exhaust should be a performance related modification - exhaust tips are cosmetic. The great sound you hear are from properly modified cars. People who really and truely work on these cars can tell the difference. So, IMHO, if you aren't ready to invest in the right exhaust, just get some nice tips until you can.

Body kit and paint are next, because you can't have a body kit without paint (please - don't be that guy with the primered kit!), and thats gonna run you some serious dough (compared to the price of the vehicle.)

Looks like a lot of fun - Good luck!

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

Well to be honest fellas I am down with more performance than looks. I like the idea of it being a sleeper. I do drive the hell out of it so suspenision may be the first mod. Any suggestions would be helpfull. I would like to take some of the stock look away. so I may try small stuff like mirrors( it only has one) and lights, maybe some paint.

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

get some black 15's and slam it forget the body kit.
you should have bought the si but o well.
For the muffler see if you can find a used si one they look clean.
paint the black trim to body color.
thats about it.
Personally I would put my money on suspension.
those things can handle like their on rails if set up right.

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

suspension has been my most fun upgrade, its totally worth it, u can corner so fast, and hard, without rolling, rims are fun too, but i wouldnt go bigger than 16s, specially as a daily driver, i got 17s with 45 series tires on it and it rides ok, but 50 would ride a lot better, no body kit, its tacky, and tastless, go suspension, rims, tires, and paint, looks do a lot, just dont go too ricey like neon orange or pink...

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a solid but cost affective suspension method?

Re: My Sushi Roll Help with first mods

ok first off bodykit+sleeper=oxymoron and face it with a bodykit you might blow the welds on the intake and cause all sorts of diamond plate floor damage. the eibach prokit seems promising but idk if they make it for that and you muuuust get a camber kit with lowered suspension!
