Are 1.6 1998 Honda civics any good?
Looking to trade my car and someone offered me a 1998 Honda Civic 1.6 2 door with 170k miles. It’s a 5 speed and the guy says it runs and shifts fine. Is there anything I should look for with that many miles? Thanks

They're great little cars. economical, reliable, long lasting, easy to work, on parts are cheap,
Make sure the timing belt and water pump have been replaced.
other than that just check the usual things when looking at a used car.

i have a 2006 Nissan Sentra with 110k miles. It’s honeslty a great little car but I’m really wanting to get back into a manual and I know you can build a civic for pretty cheap.

Downplay it, make it worthwhile. Your almost new low mileage one owner Nissan is worth a lot more money than some old beat up Civic crapwagon, but you'll consider a trade plus $XXXX.xx. Cash.

I've got a 98 DX auto with 202K on it now. It has been incredibly reliable (bought it at 80K) and I expect to have it for quite a while yet (I'd like to take it to 300K if at all possible). Nothing but good things to say about this vehicle, I drive fairly conservatively and I'm getting just over the adjusted EPA MPG.
I do agree with ezone's point--it seems like if this is a trade, you should be getting something extra for giving up a car with a lot fewer miles. Why don't you look up both cars in kelley blue book or cars.com or whatever, and show the different printups to the other person and use that as a negotiating point?
