5th gen race question
ok so the other night i was driving down a street in my neighborhood and i see, what looks like a 5th gen hatch back DX model. it definitely wasnt a 6th gen, i dont even know if they made a 6th gen hatch, but either way he was driving like a complete asswipe on this street swerving in and out of lanes trying to act all bad *** and doing well over the limit. so i thought i would teach him a lesson and pulled up to him at the next light...the only mods he had that i could see were and exhaust, but i also heard his subs going so that added some extra weight. so i didnt even look at him but we both knew it was on and as soon as the light changed we took off. i had him from the start but never by more than a little and i ended up taking him by about a half of a car length. now i dont claim to be a race car driver, in fact this is the first person that i have raced in my civic since ive owned it. (i race people in my friends GSR because i know it actually has some potential) so i was wondering what could have had him keep up with me for so long, i expected to waste him, the things i can think of is 1- im not a racer and dont have experience driving like that. 2-power to weight ratio... what kind of power to weight ratio do you have with a 5th gen DX. the only mod i have in my car are my heavy *** rims....i have some Motegi MR7's 17''x7'' and H rated tires. needless to say the fact that i didnt waste him is pissing me off and i am going to be buying my I-H-E sooner than i thought. but i would just like your opinions. thanks

yup one reason why people buy hatchbacks are because they are light... i think the new SI is pretty heavy tho.
n whether or not you/he has an auto or not matters too.

all hatchbacks have real good potential. especially 5th and 6th generation hatchback dx's. the 5th generation has a flat back body with the hatch, you can tell the difference b/c a 6th generation civ dx hatch has more of a bubble back end. anyways those cars have no a/c, power steering and not too sure about the weight, but those cars do weigh under 2300 maybe 2200 lbs. our cars in 5spd weigh 2475, automatics are heavier. give those little suckers a b series engine, and you'll have mad people on your sack.

he prolly had a motor swap or had some heavy motor work done on his car if he was able to hang. but true, those HBs do have potential because of their power to weight ratio....but, not saying u are a bad driver or anything, but it is also in the driver!
I've been taken by a couple of 5th gen hatches. hah. they're faster than most 6th gens for sure. But I don't know that nearly stock DX could be that fast. was it an Si? I say this because the 6th gen hatch's are sloowwww in stock form, I totally rape them. especially at speed.

Because the HP is horrible in the older gens...my 6th gen coupe has 106HP - even the new DX's have 16 more horses to pull the car faster...and yes, the new gens are a bit slower than everyone would hope, but as soon as the market catches up, everything will equalize out again.
The only question is how good will the newest gen be with swapping...that's the biggest advantage to the older gens.
