B18c1 road trip question

Hey guys im new here. Just bought a 2000 civic that has a b18c1 and corresponding trans in it. Going 70mph im just under 4k rpms.
Can i take a 20hr road trip at those kinds of rpms? The motor is freshly rebuilt

How freshly rebuilt? Has it been broken in yet?

Re: B18c1 road trip question

Going 70mph im just under 4k rpms.
Is that in 4th gear, or 5th gear?

I can't remember the last time I drove a manual trans car that old, I don't remember if that's a normal RPM for 5th gear or not....But I do remember I used to see a few tachs that were not very accurate.

Can i take a 20hr road trip at those kinds of rpms?
The engine is designed to be able to spin that fast. You can hold it at redline all day long if you want.
How good was the rebuild, are you concerned with workmanship unknown?

Re: B18c1 road trip question

My D17A2 took round trip TN-Quebec, and it's not that different in terms of RPM at that speed

mind what Colin said about break-in

moving thread to 6th Gen, out of engine performance section in 7th gen.

Re: B18c1 road trip question

It won't damage anything as long as the engine is broke in and the RPM is just high from gearing, but it'll use a lot more fuel. What I'm worried about is if the RPMs are so high because the clutch is slipping and is about to fail. Does the car otherwise drive OK?
