help with d16y8 please

Im running this engine in my dirt track racin car, i need to disable the vtec to meet the rules, can i do this by removing the piston in the vtec solenoid so that way its in "vtec" all the time since ill be up arround 5500 rpms at the lowest drop in the turns, will this hurt then engine in any way?

Re: help with d16y8 please

You'd have to experiment a little with how to set it to keep the valvetrain in VTEC mode all the time (oil passage open). I'm pretty sure you can't just remove the valve and have it work but I've never tried it.

would they let you just wire it to a 12v source instead of the ECM?

Are you using the stock ECM? It will code (P1259) and it will limit RPM quite low if you eliminate the valve and pressure switch wiring.

Re: help with d16y8 please

Maybe you can just remove the spring from the bottom of the valve?

Re: help with d16y8 please

Like mentioned earlier, run the Vtec solenoid right off the battery, just a single wire will keep it in vtec al the time, but you will cause problems at low RPM, as it is meant to only come on at the 'Right' time with correct throttle/Temp/air/Fuel/Oil Pressure.
