Weapon R Secret Weapon

I just bought a 1998 Civic HX coupe, which is bone stock, and I am looking at adding a Weapon R Secret Weapon intake. I am curious as to whether or not anyone has installed one and if they have had any issues, such as CEL? Lower gas mileage isn't a big deal to me since it gets 40+ already, I'm just looking for a bit more power and not having it throw a CEL.

On a side note, I am trying to decide whether or not I should get a Magnaflow exhaust, part number 15642, or the APEXi N1 that is compatible with the HX. I know the Magnaflow is cheaper, but I don't know if the sound or little extra HP from the N1 is worth the price.

I had a 1999 Civic DX Sedan, and I planned on throwing a couple mods like intakes and whatnot on it, but after it hit 200,000 everything fell apart. I ended up putting about eight times what I bought it for into it in just two years. I'm finally selling it at 212,000 and bought this HX at 125,000 miles in mint condition. So, all in all, I'm super excited.

Thanks for any help guys!

I wouldn't bother, with what little gains you get I'd keep the intake and exhaust stock. You might get a bit more power because of the denser (colder) air coming in, but it might be prone to suck up water if you hit a puddle. I like versatility more than a few HP. I thought the AEM dual piped CAI was the best so maybe do more research of unbiased dyno tests to see which CAI is best, I'm not sure.

With a aftermarket exhaust, you'd be louder if you are trying to run from the police, so that's a disadvantage right there.
I live on a private air strip and there is a fence around it and a street right after the fence. It's all visible from my house. So one night some street racer with the loudest exhaust possible somehow ends up stuck on the sidewalk with fence poles keeping the car in place. The only reason why I woke up at 2AM is because of that exhaust, and perhaps why the police showed up before he got the car free. If he had a stock exhaust then maybe nobody on my street would have woken up.

If you want the CAI sound, then take out the resonator.

But some people like a loud exhaust.
40+MPG? That's really good congrats.

Re: Weapon R Secret Weapon

It's actually a SRI but the website claims it has gains of 6-10hp, which seems really high for a SRI.

According to this episode of Top Gear and Porsche a turbocharged engine can loose up to 70hp from temperature swing.

I know I can feel my CAI more on a cold night then a hot day (but I probably would feel the difference with a stock intake because its colder out). Maybe it's due to an increase in torque rather then hp.

Re: Weapon R Secret Weapon

I'm kind of confused as to where this talk about turbos came from. My engine is not turboed. I am asking about a short ram intake, not a turbo.

Re: Weapon R Secret Weapon

Danwat basically said don't bother getting an intake because it doesn't do much. So he then posted a video of how even on a car with a turbo it doesn't help much (supporting him saying don't bother getting one). I put up a video about temperature difference and performance...

Get whatever intake you want. They are pretty much the same. The secret weapon is suppose to be one of the better ones. I have a CAI on my 01, I think it's great, better throttle response, increased torque and it sounds good (I know the secret weapon is a Sri). I have not seen better mpg with my intake, but with warmer air you should get better mpg (a bonus). You should not throw a CEL. I didn't on my 01 so I would say you shouldn't on your 98.

As for the exhaust I would go with the magnaflow. The hp increase is minimal and its a better price.
