Angry door lock mod?

hi, first time civic owner and i have noticed that i have to lock my drivers door via the key when i leave my car (can not use door plunger). i can use the plunger when the door is closed but not when its open. i assume this is so you can not lock your keys in your car. i however hate this option and hoping that others hate this as well and have a fix/mod so i can use the door plunger when the door is open.

Re: door lock mod?

Hondas have been built this way for decades. Drivers door only. Yes, so you are LESS LIKELY to lock the keys in it. Not idiot proof though. BTDT.
They got away from this in the last several years, now they work more like other manufacturers.

With the door open...
Pull out on either handle, inside or outside.
Now you can push the lock button (or power locks if you have them).
Let go of the handle and shut the door.

Hope you had the keys in your pocket.

Re: door lock mod?

Many thanks my friend. Anybody know of a mechanical work around? Or is this my only option? Also I have mechanical locks in my 1997 civic LX any good power door lock kits?

There is no workaround, and no need for it. It is a very simple system, you just have to get used to it.

Learn it, live it, love it.

Re: door lock mod?

Many of the cars have the button or switch close enough to the inner handle that people can do it one-handed as they exit the car.

Re: door lock mod?

It becomes a ritual after 1-2 months lol just pop the handle up and hit the button. No need for useless mods for that.
