I'd like to work on some heal-toe driving techniques, but my 2000 Honda Civic stock configuration of pedals has the gas pedal sitting about 3 inches behind (deeper into car) the brake pedal making it a near impossibility. Is there a DIY way of changing the pedal distance?

I'm sure they are made that way for a damn good reason.
I recommend you don't alter the configuration of the pedals.

OTOH, strap a block of wood to the gas pedal?
