i have a 98 civic ex coupe, the vtech solenoid was leaking pretty badly, i changed both of the gaskets from it and it stopped the leak. when i run the car for a couple of minutes i notice some smoke coming out of the hood and i look at the vtech solenoid its not smoking from their ,it looks like something beneath it is but i cant figure out what. It also sounds like its gonna turn off but then it revs itself back to normal and then sounds like its gonna die and does that over and over. I need suggestions?/ thnks. i also havent changed the oil for like 3000 miles. is that the problem?

No, oil status will not cause that or else the engine is about to seize or valve is sticking.
In other words no.

Either a sensor, spark, fuel pressure or idle air control valve thingy is causing the idle RPM unsteadiness.
If completely normal at anything other than idle including if you floor it, then probably is a idle air control valve issue or possibly computer thing/sensor.

Plug a car scanner into the computer.
The smoking, check it out. Get under it cautiously with a flashlight. Probably just oil that leaked out of the solenoid and is burning off from the hot metal. Wipe with a paper towel or ignore it. If it happens everytime for a while then goes away but comes back when you go to start your car again then check that out, oil is re-appearing.

Yea the smoke is probably just from some sort of leak onto a hot surface which creates steam similar looking to smoke. That happened to me one time when my rad hose snapped and shot fluid everywhere. Scared the crap outta me when I was driving.

The idle issue I had an recently fixed it. I preformed an Idle Re-learn. No more issues with idle
