99 DX Hatch Good Buy?
99 DX Hatch Good Buy?
Hey guys, just wondering if I could get some feedback on this civ that I'm going to check out. I've been looking around my area for a while now and unmodded hatchback civs are definitely tough to find. This is from what I can tell the best I could find. It will be for daily driving and commuting, and ideally I think a full stock civ with no power options would be best (less tech less can go wrong) and that is exactly what this one is. Here's some more info along with some pics.

Re: 99 DX Hatch Good Buy?
My car is almost identical to that one ('cept it's a coupe). It's the only car I've ever owned that I actually love. It's my DD and completely original stock so not fast, not flashy but 42 mpg all day every day and that's what I care about. It doesn't leak or burn oil and I've owned it for 2 years now with nothing more than oil changes.
Two things to point out from the pictures. There's obvious rust on the rear quarters (that would be a deal breaker for me) and DX Civics don't come with a tachometer which means the real mileage may not be what's displayed. It's painfully easy to swap the speedo out of the 96-00 Civics.
First thing I did was swap out the instrument cluster when I bought my car and put in a tach. If I were to sell it though I would replace the orignal cluster.

Re: 99 DX Hatch Good Buy?
Hey, it looks like a good car....
I wouldn't really imagine people would be that shifty but you never know. When I swapped my cluster out to put in the one with the tach all you have to do is take 4 screws off and the speedo pops out. Since it was swapped it could have been swapped for which ever mileage was lowest.
As far as I know no DX trim Civic comes with a tach. Mine came standard with A/C, ABS and power steering.... but no tach.

Re: 99 DX Hatch Good Buy?
Checked it out and not really as impressive as I was hoping, moving on and looking around at a few more... came across this one and test drove it. Felt great and considering buying comes with safety and etest for ~2200 although I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it closing in on the 250,000km mark... Again any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated. Here is the kijiji ad and pictures.
