Getting ripped off?

I was working on my car for a few weeks and couldnt find the problem, so i took it to a shop that is very farmiliar with hondas, one sixx milwaukee, it ended up that my timing belt jumped 5 teeth, so they say. he told me that it may have bent valves, im not sure if timing like that would bend valves. what do you guys think?

He also told me that he would trade me the gsr i have in my civic for his JDM b16 with what he says has 80k on it. let me know what you guys think.

Re: Getting ripped off?

If it jumped 5 teeth you wouldn't be driving it because your valves would be bent and you would have 0 compression.

Re: Getting ripped off?

Did you DRIVE the car to the shop?
5 teeth off would either not run at all, or barely run with not enough power to safely drive.
5 teeth may or may not be far enough to do damage.
Each engine seems to be a little different as far as how far off they can get before making valve contact.
Easy to figure out if it bent valves, but takes some time and work.
Easier to just stick a timing belt on (correctly) and see if it runs, and how well it runs.

Hard to prove if THEY bent the valves or not through carelessness or whatever. Yes, it can happen that way.

What's a GSR and why would he want it?
Maybe he wants your engine and thinks you're a sucka.

Re: Getting ripped off?

Is he going to pay you the 450 to do it ? if so not bad, but i other wise wouldn't even consider

I dont know what the prices are for motors around you but a GSR here matched with an LSD will go for about 2500 - 3k (not including the install)

a B16 with LSD tranny will go for maybe 1500 (not including install)
