Si or Not?
Si or Not?
Recently purchased a 2000 Civic Si for my son as his first car. The vehicle VIN comes up as an Si, and it has the vehicle badge, but the engine is a 1600 cc SOHC and it has the optional auto transmission. I have seen many posts whee the Si always has a DOHC...........How can I be sure this is an SI, and not an EX Coupe? It has all of the interior options, power sun roof, air, power mirrors/locks/windows etc. I did not get a manual with the car, and there are no door stickers indicating the model. I am also interested in which engine is in this vehicle. D16Y8?.
I need to replace the RAD as it has a small crack in the top plastic cover that won't seal, even using weldbond on it.
any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Si or Not?
Here's another mystery. The door sticker indicates that the tire size is an 185/65/R14...........but when I look for tires for a 2000 Civic Si, the default spec is a 195/55/R15. The spec tire shwon on the on the door sticker of my car is for a 2000 Civic EX Coupe. So is the car an Si or an EX?

Re: Si or Not?
Well as far as the engine goes, that's right 2000 si has a D16y8 which is a single overhead cam, one of the few VTECs that are SOHC. I'm not sure why the door sticker says 185/65/R14 because the si should have been sold with mags that fit 195/55/R15. The 185's are for the steel rims that fit my car.
If you want to be sure which engine is in the car 'D16Y8' is stamped on the block below the distributor on the front of block next to the transmission.

The mystery continues. I have a 1.6 liter VTEC valve cover, and all I can see in terms of an engine stamp are the letters HA. The tire stick shows 185/65/R14 and the car has steelies with plastic covers on them.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Si or Not?
I've reviewed many Google images and after doing so I am convinced I have an EX coupe not an Si, despite the branding and CarProof report which shows the car as a 2000 Civic Si, assembled in the USA. Now better call the parst guy and make sure that rad on order will fit the EX..........can any confirm the EX vs Si for me after looking at the pics I posted?
Thanks IJM

Re: Si or Not?
Confusing stuff... If it's a Canadian SI then D16Y8 (American EX). If it's an American SI then B16A2.
FYI - Canadian models are also assembled in the US. Mine was made in Ohio.

Re: Si or Not?
Thanks again. I checked my VIN and the first series is 1HGEJ8274YL, so other than the digit "7" - which doesn't seem to match up with any of the vehicle grades shown, it's a made in the USA Civic 2 door coupe witha D16Y8 engine.
Any idea where I can check and see what a vehicle grade 7 is?

Re: Si or Not?
Really just sounds like you have what Stock99 alluded to: you have a Canadian Si/US ex.. The d-series under the hood is a giveaway.

Scroll down to "D16Y8" and you'll see US ex and Canadian Si under the list of cars that engine is found in.
Also, the USDM Si with the B16 never came with a manual tranny

Re: Si or Not?
I googled VIN decoders and after trying several that gave very basic info, the VINMap.com site will print a premium report for $1.00 - 13 pages of detailed specs.
The car is definitely a 2000 Honda Civic Si-G Auto with A/C/ABS
wheels size is a 14" x 5" w a 185/65/r14 tire
Thanks
