97 civic Idle Rpm w/ AC on
97 civic Idle Rpm w/ AC on
Im wanting to know where my civic should idle at with the air on. It idles around 500-800rpm then kicks up to 900-1000rpm when fan kicks on. Ive clean the iacv which didnt work the way it should to begin with.

Base idle RPM spec might be on the emissions sticker.
Idle speed is computer controlled. If something is wrong, then something needs fixed. Right?
Clean the throttle body and do an idle relearn. See if that helps anything.
But---
The idle speed should stay pretty consistent with the AC running or not.
But if you kick the AC on and the fans run without the AC compressor clutch kicking on, you have a different problem--The AC doesn't work and there isn't the load that was expected on the engine, so the RPM may be too high because the AC doesn't work right.

Re: 97 civic Idle Rpm w/ AC on
Engine fully warmed up at operating temp
Turn off all electrical loads (lights, blower fan, etc.)
Idle in park/neutral for 10 minutes
do not touch the gas pedal during this time.

Re: 97 civic Idle Rpm w/ AC on
The radiator and condensor are separate and independent of each other on that car.
The radiator fan has its own set of controls and should run independently of the AC system.
The condensor fan should be on only when the AC compressor clutch is engaged.
The computer should control the IAC valve to keep the engine at the same idle RPM all the time, regardless of what else gets turned on. (I don't remember it actually raising the RPM, I think it is supposed to keep it the same.)
