2000 Civic Si Questions

I posted a week ago about the Civic Si and whether or not it was worth it to own. I've decided that it is. Been checking craigslist everyday for the perfect civic Si. I just have a few questions for the owners out there.
1.) Premium Only gas. Do you follow this always? Do you have to? What if you don't?

2.) How are the stock speakers on the car? Are they ok or bad?

3.)Your gas milage?

4.) Do you think the vtec it has is more for showing off? I can't really imagine when you'd need to use it if you don't race....

Anything else you wanna say helps. Wanted to continue posting on here, I like this forum

i dont have an si but i will be doing a b16 swap soon in my ex.

1. in my em2 i ALWAYS used premium, in my ej8 i use plus. after my swap i will use premium i just dont care all that much about my d16y8 lol but u get better mileage and its better for your engine to use the better gas.

2. speakers in the si are the same for all 2000 civics i believe and i think their good enough, especially with the tweeter it helps alot. just throw a bump in the trunk

3. dunno yet. kinda depends how you drive

4. depends COMPLETELY how you drive it. i dont race but every once in a while vtec gets the better of me and ill get up to ~6800 rpm in first then go straight to 3rd just cuz its fun lol but vtec is mainly for highway ramps and such

+1 on wanting to get an si though

Re: 2000 Civic Si Questions

Never use premium gasoline in a car that dosen't specify the use of premium gasoline.
The engine's combustion chamber dosen't get hot enough to fully ignite the fuel so it won't completely burn inside the motor, so you will actually get less power, the fuel instead burns inside the catalytic converter, which will screw up the cat real quick.
Also it can mess up the fuel injectors, the O2 sensors and foul the spark plugs.
You will get less power, less gas mileage and a whole lot of **** to fix.

So it's a COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY in every way possible, unless the car is made to run on premium 93 octane, DON'T DO IT!

1) You are risking your own engine by using less efficient gas. On a complete fill up, you are really only paying ~$2.50 more for premium per pump than regular
However, I've known several Integra GSR owners using regular gas on their cars and they've been functioning fine.
Again, it comes at your own risk, skimping out on $2.50 isnt really worth it in the long run...I'd rather skip eatting a fast food meal instead.

2) All hondas come with stock pioneers
They are DECENT, not great, not bad...but definitely want to upgrade if you like quality music

3) Gas mileage really depends on how you drive it, Mel here drives the EM1, and he's been gentle with it, i believe getting more than 30mpg on his.
But if you're hitting VTEC more often then not, it'll definitely be much lower

4) It's a little showing off, it helps when overtaking or getting on the freeway as previous guy said
It's just like a bottle of NOS, you dont really need it, but its there for when you do

Re: 2000 Civic Si Questions

Nice, can't wait til I find the right one. I'm patient and am waiting for one with lower milage and in good conditions. For finding out how much to pay, they are priced a little more than kbb right? A guy was selling his with 150k clean title in good conditions for $7,000. Wasn't that kinda high for the mileage?

Re: 2000 Civic Si Questions

I have a 1999 EM1 with a partial build and i love it. I always run premium with high compression cause its not very healthy for it to run regular. And gas mileage on these depend hugely on how you drive. I love the vtec is like nos thing its so true, but i tend to use it a lot. I got mine with a partial build and a lot of extra's with 5k on the build and new head for $5400 so dont let anybody rip you off. Have fun with it.
